    Definitely worth a visit
We booked our visit in advance with a timed arrival slot. On the day, we were able to walk there easily from our nearby hotel and found the building attractive, spacious, clean and airy. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the exhibits were fascinating with a wide range of sea creatures well displayed. We even saw a talk with divers in one of the main tanks. Food and drink were nice and reasonably price compared with many museums and other tourist places. An added attraction here is that the ticket gives you 12 months of free return visits if you can make use of it, which we will do if possible. Gift shop well-stocked with nice stuff though mostly rather overpriced. Some of the internal direction signs were incorrect/misleading so this needs attention but no big deal.

    Enjoyable Visit
I used to live in Plymouth and have visited this aquarium on many occasions and have always loved my visits. This visit was great too. I visited this time with my partner who had not been before and he enjoyed it considerably. I must admit, the £25 adult entry fee is very high, I know you can get free return visits for a year included in this price, however, we live 400 miles away so can't make use of that. I would if I still lived in Plymouth though, definitely! In the aquarium itself there is a great variety of fish and the big tank is very impressive and so relaxing. It would be a great place to visit to restore your mental health, we were so relaxed we nearly fell asleep lol! The yoga they do here would be amazing. We were there for the shark and turtle talk which was taken by a lovely knowledgeable guy who made the talk really enjoyable. Learning about Friday the turtle and all his cheekiness was fun! I totally appreciate this aquarium and all the hard work/research they do which would have to reflect in the admission fee I suppose. The care they give the fish is second to none. I certainly don't agree with others who have said it's not worth a visit or needs a revamp. It's a jewel in Plymouth's crown.

    Amazing aquarium
Visited with two small children who absolutely loved seeing the aquarium. Very accessible and lots for the children to see and do. There is also a good stopping point halfway where you can sit and watch the large aquarium. They also enjoyed the large drawing pad and crayons on the table which kept them entertained. You also get a free return ticket within 12 months if you are thinking of returning.

    Underwhelmed
£75 for 2 adults and 2 teens. Great place for little kids, alas we were all too old for it. One big tank you view from different levels and lots of very small ones. Very busy, gotta wait to look at exhibits. 1 small shark, 2 rays the best of it. Expected more, done in 40 minutes. It offered something to do on a rainy day in July but wouldn't return, the sealife centre at Forth bridge near Edinburgh much better. Underwhelmed.

A lovely day out for everyone.
After reading the recent reviews I was apprehensive about visiting with my three teenagers however I’m not sure if the people writing negative reviews went to the same place as us. It was brilliant,we spent 6 hours there in total, there was so much to do and see.We took our time, lingered by the big tanks to watch the incredible fish;the Atlantic tank has three viewing areas;it had lots of sharks, rays and a sea turtle. We could have stayed much longer just to watch this tank. We attended the shark talk and my children took the bolt on behind the scenes tour. I have to wonder if some people have managed to miss parts of it on there visit as you do have to ensure you’re following the way around correctly. It was worth every penny and the free return tickets are a bonus. The toilets although not pristine were satisfactory. The only thing that wasn’t great was the cafe which we felt lacked variety and we didn’t like the coffee but that’s due to personal taste. The only slight criticism is that it would be nice if an indoor area was provided for people bringing their own packed lunches. We’d definitely go back.

National Marine Aquarium - worth a visit
After reading previous negative reviews I wasn’t sure what to expect, and pleasantly surprised. We booked the earliest tickets available at 9.30 to help our Son who struggles with busy loud places. We stayed for an hour which was enough, we had plenty of time to spend at the large viewing areas for amazing close up views of the rays, sharks and turtle and although it got busier it never felt unmanageable. The place was spotlessly clean and no issues other than café getting busy as it’s quite small. The aquarium in Birmingham has more to look at, The Deep in Hull is more spectacular, but the tanks here were large, well stocked and offered great views - a little bit expensive for an hour but the children loved it, and that will do!!

    Disappointing
The Aquarium itself is beautiful, upon entering the loft to go into it was broken, my husband had to walk around to fond the lift door jammed just opening and closing, i thought there would be more to see for the price we paid, i was so disappointed with the service of staff that i interacted with. There was not a single member of staff on the floors only the volunteers that did talks and when asking a question regarding an access they had not got a clue so i had to go all the way back to the gift shop to ask the question. With having a disabled member of the family and a baby in a pushchair the lift to go down to ‘under the sea’ to the bottom floor was broken there was people carrying pushchairs down the stairs ect i asked the guy at the front desk in the gift shop if there was any other way down and his response was ‘no if the lift is broken its broken you either dont go down there or carry your disabled member down the stairs’ this i found unacceptable when all he could of said was i will get that sent onto the maintance team or something along them lines so the family member missed part of the experience to see what was down there. Once we went around the other way into the middle floor as we count go to the bottom, as we went through the exit we saw the people fixing the lift by that point we was so annoyed that we left, the gift shop is so small and basically is just a que line and felt like we was in the way whilst looking. I dont think i would return here

What I saw was good, but there could have been more
It was okay. I appreciate that aquariums and research facilities have high running costs but I still felt it was slightly overpriced for what you got, even with the annual pass included. I felt I learned a lot about ocean conservation; the exhibits with this focus were good. The marine life was beautiful to witness, but in most cases the species information was basic. I was surprised how quickly I got through the whole thing; it only took me about an hour. I guess I just expected a bit more for my money, but what I saw was good.

    Softplay extra charge
This is a good aquarium lots of variety of fish. Some good seating areas to enjoy tanks if it is not too busy. There is the option for a free annual ticket conversion making it good value if you live close enough to return. The restaurant offers a limited selection of food, basically sandwiches and pies, chips. I am astounded that despite the £12.50 child ticket price for children over 3 there is also a £2 charge to use a mediocre soft play. There is no signage outside to say there is a cost at all, so once the children took their shoes off and ran in there was no choice then to pay, I could hardly call them out again. I only realised there was a charge when 2 coffees were £9, when I asked to check the price was told of the soft play charge. unbelievable.

    FINtastic value for money
Absolutely fantastic, great value for money, educational, and a generally brilliant attraction. You get to see animals you wouldn't on an every day basis, there are regular talks/shows, a "collect the stamp" activity in each of the exhibits, a massive variety of fish and even a turtle!! Plus at only 25 quid FOR A YEAR PASS what's not to love?! Looking forward to another visit when we return to plymouth in a few months!

What can I say about this place, it's amazing! My partner and I visited the other day, everyone that works there is very knowledgeable and very friendly. I would recommend it to my friends.all the good work they do letting everyone know about the marine life and what they are doing for conservation is great and it was especially nice to see Friday

We got this for my son’s 5th birthday present and were pleasantly surprised what a fantastic experience it was! The evening was very well organised with time to set up your marked sleeping area on arrival, there were then around three optional talks every half an hour, a craft activity in the cafe (there was only one activity here but so much to do elsewhere), the evening finished with a film tucked in beds at 9.45pm with ice cream provided, in the morning there was time to pack up before finishing with breakfast which was also provided and included a full cooked breakfast option. The staff were all friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. It really was a memorable experience and one I’d recommend! The only thing I would say is the information about the evening was only sent out one or two days before the event but for us this didn’t matter too much!

Visited because we had watched the TV show. We are a group of 4 adults. We sat in front of the large tanks for about 30 mins each an saw everything we wanted to... I think that patience and sitting on the floor is key to have a great day here.
Enjoyed it all the more for having binge-watched the TV show ( 6 episodes) before we came.

Not sure what expected but was disappointed as thought there would be more exhibits to see. Felt like 2 big tanks full of sea creatures and fish and a few displays in tanks in the walls as you walked between the tanks. I know the money supports a good cause but it still felt overpriced.

Not worth the trip. Cafe horrendous and smelt, toilets disgusting. Took no more than an hour to walk round and it cost £55 for three off us. Hopefully the money is going towards ocean conservation because it definitely not being spent on the facilities. Got free admission for rest of the year but wouldn’t return in a hurry. Children very underwhelmed.

It's a nice aquarium, but we went during the Easter holidays and it was insanely crowded. One thing that bears mentioning is that it's not as big as you might think, given the name "National Marine Aquarium". It took us around two hours to walk around and we took our time. It didn't help that the outdoor area was closed.

I wasn't too impressed with the scheduled shows. We went to see two of them, but those were both geared towards very young children, so we didn't hang around for any others. Other aquariums manage to pull this off while being engaging for the whole family, so some improvements could be made here. We did book the behind the scenes tour though and that was fantastic, with two very engaging hosts showing us around some of the operational areas of the aquarium (adding another hour to our stay on top of the two we spent wandering around). I'd highly recommend it.

One thing to note, is that if you're going because you hope to see some of the animals from the BBC show, make sure to temper your expectations, as you obviously can't force those animals to actually make an appearance when you want them to (we briefly saw Friday the turtle from underneath once at least).

The fish were great and we saw what we expected. Building seemed tired and the signs were very faded with not many facts on.

There’s a lot of blank peeled blue walls with literally nothing on them, projectors that weren’t on (on a busy Saturday in the holidays)

Some of the glass seemed quite dirty

It’s a lot of money to enter and I also don’t agree with the amount of donation points in the aquarium either.

Haven’t even been yet but not off to a great start! My daughter and I received a feed the turtle experience which was purchased November 2023. When I went to book, there were no slots available until October 2024. So I went with it to then be told I had to redeem and book online. I had an agent in the phone with me whilst I did this as had no faults in the website. So I see there are booking for 2,3 or 4 people all different in price, so I ask what does my voucher cover. I’m told 2 and think to myself, that’s odd. Why would my partner book for just me and our daughter when we are a family of 3??? OK so I book and I want to secure a slot before my voucher expires. When I told my partner he said NO, I WAS SOLD THIS AS FOR UP TO 4 PEOPLE! I email them asking have they changed their pricing since last year, not a clear response so I mail again advising of the above, no response. Now chasing and looking for details and how I can complain or speak to someone about this. Not happy and not been there yet!

A friendly welcoming place with so much to see. Only two negatives - disappointing that the person giving the presentation was very difficult to understand so nothing was gained by staying and listening and secondly, it was very difficult to find the seahorses, but worth asking a volunteer for help.

We saw the recent TV programme and hadn't heard of this aquarium. My parents lived in Devon for over 10 years whilst my daughter was little and never visited as they weren't aware of it either.
The cost is pricey but I would say fairly typical for this type of activity, comparable to the sealife centres and fills around an hour to an hour and a half.
I was a little concerned as we arrived to find 2 coach loads of secondary school pupils arriving but on the whole we managed to avoid being win the same place at the same time. ( Thought they were remarkably engaged and well behaved)
We did spot all the tv star animals ,yes some you had to spend time over looking for but they don't perform or appear to schedule.
It was a slightly different bias to other aquarium as there was less information on the animals and much more about care for the ocean which as that is the conservation this behind it is understandable.
I tend to see these types of visits as being about a reasonable donations to a worthwhile charity and if that allows me some time filled with an entertaining experience then I've done OK out of it. ( I don't get a couple of hours filled when I give to the salvation army but do get a wander round a nice house with the national trust)
