The Concord Jazz Festival is coming back in 2022.
Yet, it’s not going to look like the ones jazz fans have seen in the past.
Instead of being a day-long ticketed event featuring big-name touring acts at the Concord Pavilion, the 2022 edition will be a five-day program consisting of mostly free events and highlighting a number of local talents.
The jazz festival runs Aug. 3-7 at venues in Concord. The program features five events and has been dubbed “Take Five” in honor of legendary jazz artist (and Concord native) Dave Brubeck.
Here are the events:
Aug. 3: Guitarist Jinx Jones performs a free show at 6:30 p.m. at the Veranda shopping center’s Fountain Park Lawn. The concert is part of the Veranda Unplugged series (6:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Oct. 26).
Aug. 4: Harpist-violinist Carlos Reyes plays a free show at 6:30 p.m. as part of the Todos Santos Music & Market Series.
Aug. 5: Jazz-fusion act Glib Rig performs a free show at 5 p.m. during Jazz Night at the Concord Tap House. Show also features saxophonist KJ Focus.
Aug. 6: Jazz in the Park, featuring performances by DJ/multi-instrumentalist Chaz Gunter and saxophonist Howard Wiley, runs 1-4 p.m. at Todos Santos Plaza. Admission is free.
Aug. 7: The 2022 Concord Jazz Festival closes out with Java & Jazz, featuring contemporary jazz band Stratify and saxophonist KJ Focus at the Concord Museum and Event Center. Event runs 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tickets are $15 and include “a collectible cup and unlimited pours of iced coffee and iced tea (while supplies last),” according to a news release. It’s a benefit for the Concord Historic Society.
