Tranexamic acid
Indications/Uses
Bleeding tendencies or abnormal bleeding in which systemic or local hyperfibrinolysis is involved. Erythema, swelling or pruritus in eczema or similar conditions, urticaria, drug eruptions or toxicoderma. Pharyngalgia, redness, hyperemia or swelling in tonsillitis, pharyngolaryngitis. Pain in the oral cavity or mucosal aphtha in stomatitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cap/tab 750 mg to 2 g daily in 3 or 4 divided doses. Inj 5% 5-10 mL (1-2 amp) IV/IM in 1 or 2 divided doses. During or after surgery 10-50 mL (2-10 amp) by IV drip. 10% 2.5-5 mL IV/IM in 1 or 2 divided doses. During or after surgery 5-10 mL IV or 5-25 mL by IV drip.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Cerebral thrombosis, MI, thrombophlebitis. Patients at risk of thrombosis. Consumption coagulopathy. Renal failure. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Anorexia, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, itching, skin rash, diarrhea, drowsiness.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant w/ thrombin, hemacoagulase, batroxobin may cause thrombosis tendency. Concomitant w/ coagulation factor agents may enhance coagulation.
