What travelers are saying
- RjessMMMVancouver, WA565 contributionsWe had the privilege of visiting Zahara for a couple of hours in November. This was part of a private tour that we took out of Seville to Ronda. The company we used was booked via Trip Advisor with a company Naturanda Turismo Ambiental. Getting here was very interesting as the road were pretty curvy to the top. He actually had one person who gets car sick sit in the front of the van. Parking up top is a challenge to say the least. Small church which was nice to visit. The views are spectacular. Just such a quaint village that was pretty empty when we got there but there was a fair number of tourists by the time we left. If you have any way of getting there, I would definitely make the effort to visit. Loved our visit. Enjoy.Written November 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Theo1 contributionMirabel who created the museum gave us a wonderful tour of the museum which completely came to life with her fascinating stories of the history of leather in Ubrique. - VTwelltravelledMiddlebury, VT588 contributionsWe managed to drive up the steep road and snag a spot which was good as it was almost 110 degrees. You can go up in summer until 10pm (last ticket at 9:15pm) -it's a pretty large compound but we went straight up to the tower which is amazing - one of the best examples of Moorish towers. the small museum/excavation site was interesting too. It's a steep climb with many stair and a rugged path so not for the faint of heart. Maybe best not to let kids run around as there were a few place you could fall to your death if you weren't paying attention (not so much for adults but for small kids).
We loved our visit and enjoyed the views and the short history lessons through the signs.Written July 10, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Very beautiful. Not recommended for anyone with mobility issues as it is a moderate hike.Written November 26, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ThewanderingwinosBrighton, UK677 contributionsWe rang ahead to visit these amazing Phoenician/Roman salt-pans on the outskirts of El Bosque. There are no signposts for it and it is up a rough track off the A-372. There is an English speaker who does the tours normally but he wasn’t there when we went. We were met by Jose who did our tour and it was just the 2 of us. We understood most of what Jose was telling us, luckily we had read up a bit on the site before hand. It really is a fascinating site especially if you are interested in history. It is hard to understand how you can have salt-pans miles away from the sea but it’s a warm salt water spring that bubbles up at the site, having travelled through rocks full of salt minerals. The Phoenicians used local stone to build the first condensing pans, then later the Romans arrived and extended them and built a town, Iptuci, and even a Mint based on the wealth generated by the salt. There is a small shop at the site where you can buy the 3 different types of salt; flor de sal, escamas de sal and gordo. Flor de sal is the best, then escamas de sal, then gordo is very course salt mainly used for cooking. This is a working salt farm so it is best to call ahead to book a tour which is €2. It’s amazing seeing a site pretty much unchanged since Roman times. We bought some salt and Jose gave us a salt crystal cushion as a gift, I would definitely recommend a tour around this interesting historical site.Written January 6, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - HR DExeter, UK78 contributionsThe most easy to walk around of the of the Pueblos Blancos that we have seen. Easy parking in town, lots of restaurants and cafés, everything (more or less) flat, lots of shade in the middle of the day.Written September 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BluebellplasnewyddCardiff, UK2,030 contributionsThis is a picturesque village with a number of restaurants. Not too spoilt. There are good views of the countryside descending into the village and also on the road to Ronda. If you are lucky you may see mountain goats and vultures.Written November 5, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Nancy PDelray Beach, FL297 contributionsWe drove up to Grazalema just in time for siesta. Fortunately, all of the restaurants were open. Plus, the town was getting ready for a fiesta so it was all decorated.Written July 21, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - alfoquiaGlasgow, UK176 contributionsCame here for a day visit and was blown away with the museum it us st in an old church, but designed with a modern twist. We were given a book which had English interpretation for everything we saw. It gave us an insight into the history of the town, employment, people and fiestas.
They had a huge screen with wonderfull footage in English.
You could spend hours there.
