Download Windows Live Essentials from the Wayback Machine. The safest way to get Windows Movie Maker is to download the original 2012 Windows Live Essentials installer from Microsoft. But because Microsoft no longer hosts the install file, you'll need to get the archived version from the Internet Archive. Don't worry, it's the official installer, so there are no viruses or malware. Just click the long link below to start the download:
- http://web.archive.org/web/20160423192125/http://wl.dlservice.microsoft.com/download/1/9/4/194B1919-A211-441F-BC0E-34F6B533B876/en-gb/wlsetup-all.exe
- If prompted, click Save, OK, or Download to start the download.
- You may need to wait a few moments for the download to begin.
Once the download is complete, double-click the wlsetup-all.exe file in your computer's downloads location to open it. By default, downloaded files can be found in your Downloads folder.
Windows needs permission to allow the setup file to make changes to your computer.
You'll want to choose this section option, as installing all Windows Live Essentials will load your PC with a bunch of old versions of software that aren't compatible with Windows 10 or Windows 11.

Open Windows Movie Maker. Once the installation is complete, you'll find Movie Maker on both Windows 10 and Windows 11 in your Start menu. Just press the Windows key, type movie maker, and click Movie Maker to get started.
- If you're using Windows 11 and don't see Movie Maker in your Start menu, open File Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery, then double-click MovieMaker.exe.

Click Accept. This option is in the bottom-right corner of the window. You only have to do this once. Movie Maker will open immediately after this.
