  • Q: How to remove and install the front stabilizer bar on BMW X5?
    A: The front sway bar kit on E53 models is mounted using the same fasteners as the front end reinforcement plate. The sway bar kit links are attached to the strut assemblies. To remove the sway bar kit, first raise the vehicle and ensure it is safely supported. Then, remove the sway bar kit connecting link mounting nut by counterholding the shaft of the sway bar kit link ball joint while removing the nut. If replacing the sway bar links, remove the upper sway bar kit link ball joint from the strut. Next, remove the front end reinforcement plate. Remove the sway bar kit anchor bushing nuts on both sides. Release the control arm in the steering knuckle on the left side. Press the front strut assembly forward and lift the sway bar kit over the drive shafts, removing it towards the left side. To install, reverse the removal steps, making sure to replace the fasteners with new ones. Tighten the reinforcement plate/sway bar kit mount fasteners with the car on the ground and loaded. Bounce the suspension a few times before final tightening.
