Underrated (adjective): /ˌəndəˈrādəd/ - Not rated or valued highly enough. Used to describe a piece of artistic expression that wasn't critically well-received but that a person believes deserves higher praise. It does not mean that a movie isn't well-known.

Talk about your favorite movies, discuss film topics, whatever you want. But it must be about film! Also, no self-promotion.
I watched it recently and really loved it, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford are simply outstanding. And atm I'm watching the "sequel" Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte with Bette Davis and Olivia de Haviland.
If you haven't seen it yet you should watch Mommie Dearest next
Love that movie. So camp
Me too but it becomes less camp when you realize it's based off a book her daughter wrote about how absolutely insane her mom was.
AFAIK, all the people who knew Crawford dispute those claims.
That makes it even more camp in my book
Thanks, I'll check it out.
No mooore wire hangers... Evvvveeerrrr.
You should check out Feud, the season about Bette and Joan. I believe it’s Feud season 1.
Yes! Great shows! Just finished both seasons! Directed by the great Ryan Murphy! I’ll watch anything by him!
Yeah, I've heard of it, definitely will see it.
I ❤️ Bette Davis' movies. She always did a fantastic job playing crazy!
“Hush, Hush…” isnt a sequel to this film at all. While Bette’s two characters in the films are similar, they are completely separate.
I probably should've wrote - spiritual successor, not sequel.
If you like Mad Men, you'd probably get a big kick out of the first season of Feud on FX, called Bette and Joan. It's dedicated to the backstory of making this movie.
And by gawd the spare no expense retro everything production is up there with Mad Men. I bought it on prime and watch it once a year.
It’s also on Hulu. So good.
Thank you! 😊
I really enjoyed that series. Both Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange were amazing.
This clip of Bette/“Bette” singing the theme really encapsulates the tremendous effort that went into producing the miniseries.
Funny. I just started watching it today.
Is this the movie that Seinfeld references when George says, "But you are, Blanche! You are in the shackles!"?
Yes indeed!

“You mean all this time we could have been friends?”
Honestly. One of the most heartbreaking last lines in a film.
Saw it in a theater when it came out. Lots of screams when she served Blanche the "meal".
Recently I read that critics call this the "Psycho Biddy" genre of films, of which this was the first. Hollywood continued making variations starring has-beens for about a decade.
Also called "Hagsploitation" genre.
Oh that's funny!
Saw it when I was about 8. To this day, it still affects me and I'm in my mid 60s
My grandmother spoke with the same accent as Betty. She was impeccably coiffed, always well dressed and STERN. Had a phd in chemistry and worked pharma when women didn’t work outside the home. I’d see my friends grandparents being sweet and kind, then come back to a woman I was sure wanted to drown me; she’d return my Xmas gifts from her if I didn’t live up to expectations on her visits (after letting me see them). Tough cookie.
That does not make her a "tough cookie." Sounds more like a mentally unbalanced sadist.
Saw this 40 years ago when I was 9. I found it very disturbing. Pre cable, pre vcr (in my house), I wasn't exposed to many scary/weird things. I thought the Dr. Who intro was too much lol
This is one of my all time favs. I used to own it on VHS. Yes, I'm that old lol. It was brutal for its time. To have strong actresses too. Huge Betty Davis fan.
Great movie.
FX made a Joan & Bette limited series based on the making of this movie. It was really great and gave a lot of insight into the actresses behind these roles and just how difficult the industry was back then (and still seems to be).
Loved this series!
But yeah are Blanche, ya are!
Lord Almighty, my parents brought me to the drive in when I was 4 years old, in my pajamas, thinking I'd just pass out. But I saw every bit of this film. Scared the hell out of me. Oh, showing my age.
Bette should have won an Oscar for this. She was nominated for it, but Anne Bancroft won. The story of Joan and Bette on that Oscars night is pretty fun: https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2017/04/fx-feud-joan-crawford-bette-davis-oscars
Oh, Hagsploitation!!!!
Love this one. Betty Davis is absolutely demented.
Saw it as a child with my parents, in the backseat of the car at the drive-in. The dead bird for dinner scared me!
That was probably Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964), also with Bette Davis. Another great horror movie!
Ooops! You’re right! We saw that one as well!
So lucky! I only ever got to see one movie at a drive-in, but it was such a neat experience.
Before Star Wars & Surround Sound, the drive-in was the way we saw most movies.
Wait, wasn’t it Straight Jacket?
Oh, that’s right — I’d forgotten there was a severed head in Straight-Jacket, too! Wow, 1964 was a big year for great actresses and severed heads… 🫠
Our family went to the drive-in to see a Jerry Lewis movie when I was three and for some reason I was terrified. If we'd seen Baby Jane I'd probably still be under the car seat.
This is one of my favourite ones, Bet is at her best in this although she never fails to deliver.
This one never gets old!!
Just to put it out there: the book is great.
It is! Plus, it confirmed the story that Bette had a lot to do with crafting Jane’s aesthetic, as book!Jane had (IIRC — it’s been 20 years) a short red bob.
I hated it, but found it so compelling to watch. Multiple times.
I was 10 years old when I saw "What Ever Happened To Baby Jane, " and after seeing Betty Davis I was so scared I nearly pissed in my pants 😂😂😂!!!
I first watched it about 6 months ago! My palms were sweating at various points, it is a great move!

Legacy The film's success spawned a succession of horror/thriller films featuring psychotic older women, later dubbed the psycho-biddy subgenre. Among them, Robert Aldrich's Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964), Lee H. Katzin's What Ever Happened to Aunt Alice? (1969), Curtis Harrington's Whoever Slew Auntie Roo? (1972) and What's the Matter with Helen? (1971) and, more recently, Ti West's X (2022) could be mentioned. It was also parodied by the Italian comedy film What Ever Happened to Baby Toto? (1964). In 1991, the film was remade as a television film starring real-life sisters Vanessa and Lynn Redgrave.Inspired by the film, British comedy duo Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders created the episode "Whatever Happened to Baby Dawn?" (1990) of their BBC sketch comedy series, and a radio series about feuding sisters called Whatever Happened To Baby Jane Austen (2021).Author Shaun Considine chronicled the actresses' rivalry, including their experience shooting this film, in the 1989 book Bette and Joan: The Divine Feud. Their broadly fictionalized backstage battle during the production of the film was also the basis for Ryan Murphy's 2017 miniseries Feud, which starred Jessica Lange as Crawford and Susan Sarandon as Davis. The alleged rivalry was also dramatized for BBC Radio 4 as Bette and Joan and Baby Jane (2010), starring Catherine Tate as Davis and Tracy-Ann Oberman as Crawford. In 2005, a part of the film appeared in House of Wax, another Warner Bros. horror film. In 2006, Christina Aguilera adopted a new alter ego called Baby Jane after Bette Davis' character in the film.In Season 2, Episode 4 of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, the drag queens' acting chops are tested in parody film sequels of RuPaul's favorite films. A parody of ''What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?'' called ''Wha' Ha' Happened to Baby JJ?'' was made by Alaska and Alyssa Edwards. In the film Space Jam: A New Legacy, Baby Jane makes an appearance as a spectator watching the Tune Squad battle the Goon Squad.

It’s one of my all time favorites! The house they lived in still exists in Hancock Park! There’s a fabulous remake with drag queens that’s not to be missed 😁. It’s free on Tubi and an absolute tribute to the original.

A favorite. First saw it around age 11 or 12 and was captivated. Have seen it at least a dozen times since, and it hasn’t gotten old yet!
Also, every time I have to make an important telephone call, I feel like Jane talking to the liquor store. 😂
An amazing film.. some of the best acting you'll ever see.
Great hag horror!
It's such a good movie, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford were phenomenal!!!

This movie is bonkers in the best way.
Just give her the ice cream, damn.
One of my favorites! There was a remake done in 1991 that you can find for free on Amazon Prime. It's pretty awful IMHO.
Classic!
Such a good movie. Need to watch it again
My mom rented this when I was a kid and it scared the shit out of me.
It's one of my favorite movies. It looks pretty good on Blu-ray, if you have a copy.
There is an alternative version of this movie. It is a remake and more or less a comedy. All the characters I believe (the major characters at least) were played by trans actors. They were laughed out loud funny because it is so ridiculous – and the movie is called "Baby Jane?!"
