Opening

This FAQ covers a number of the game's features and move lists in what I hope will prove to be a useful manner.

This guide is based primarily from playing the original game on a Neo Geo Pocket Color handheld console, as well as the Nintendo Switch and Steam PC ports.

A version of this guide also exists on Steam Guides, which was transferred over and maintained by myself.

Version History

10/3//2021: Version 2.0
-While waiting for approval, added a note about HIDE's relative lack of usefulness in VS MODE for Nintendo Switch and Steam PC port users (minor enough that version number isn't changing)

9/30/2021: Version 2.0
-Steam PC version released. As it is a port of the Nintendo Switch version, references have been changed accordingly.
-Changed section name to Nintendo Switch / Steam PC Ports. Now contains information on changes exclusive to the Steam version, which is just controls and such. Thanks to fos on the Steam discussion forums for info on the integer zoom's particulars in this port.
-Added section for Achievements, for the Steam PC version. They are not very complicated, so it's a basic listing.
-As now noted above, I have created a version of this guide on Steam Guides for convenience. Thanks to Sara Leen for help on getting the GameFAQs HTML format into the Steam Guide.
-Ryo's Ryuko Ranbu Notes cleared, as they accidentally had notes on Terry's Level 2 Power Geyser.
-B.B. Hood move list accidentally had a filler entry referring to a Ryu's Shinkuu Tatsumaki Senpuukyaki, now removed.
-Other small typos have been fixed.

9/3/2021: Version 1.9
-Fixed SNK Hidden Character 1 (Yuri Sakazaki) input for Sai Ha which uses P and not K (Thanks, Protocultor)
-Some formatting adjustments and fixes

6/07/2021: Version 1.8
-Added information regarding a recent Nintendo Switch port patch which adds the following:
Character unlocks simplified (panel breaks never hit blank spaces - this cannot be turned off)
Can use rewind with L and R buttons (must be enabled in the settings first)
Integer Scaling can be done during zoom in for pixel perfect screen sizes (hold the A / > / X button while using the R stick for zoom)
-The above applies to both the individual download and Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection Vol. 1 versions
-In addition to that, it is now possible to import save data from the individual download version to the Vol. 1 collection (it will run a check for an existing individual save file if a Vol. 1 save file does not already exist)

6/01/2021: Version 1.7
-Confirmed the Movie Select unlock through Neo Geo Pocket (black & white) trick works on Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection Vol. 1 (A big thanks to iNFAMESS for testing this)
-Some notes about Dan's Command Taunts: Most do not work if PROVOKE is set to OFF in SETUP, but one actually does (his + P+K)
-Also added just in case that the above does not matter for his Chouhatsu Densetsu (Super Taunt)
-Added missing information about Dan's Otoko Michi damaging himself if it succeeds
-Minor correction to Move List Terminology listings regarding charge moves (initial direction is not always "back")
-Added missing date to Evil Ryu's first playable appearance (last Capcom hidden character)
-Some typos fixed

3/30/2021: Version 1.6
-Update to how the second way to unlock Movie Select using a Neo Geo Pocket black & white system works
-I will note that I have not yet tested the above with Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection Vol. 1
-Correction to a hidden character's alternate color listing

3/17/2021: Version 1.5
-Added references to Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection Vol. 1, which the Nintendo Switch port is included in
-Some additions to Odds & Ends
-Move Lists: Extra comment regarding Guile's Level 2 Sonic Hurricane
-Added more section links that needed filling in

3/03/2021: Version 1.4
-Updated the Unlocking Speed Strategies to better reflect the changes to panel breaks by unlock set
-Corrected some mistakes (Sparring options, Battle Config options)
-Various other minor corrections and formatting fixes
-Added in section links that needed filling in

3/02/2021: Version 1.3
-Updated Secrets & Tricks to have some actual secrets
-Added Special Names, Intros & More section
-Minor info additions to Olympic, other wording adjustments

3/01/2021: Version 1.2
-Added many more sections and expanded guide considerably
-Corrected unlock panel conditions

2/26/2021: Version 1.1
-Reorganized the sections
-Tourney section added
-Olympic details expanded and Master Skill list added
-Added some missing information to Move List Terminology
-Minor fixes to move list descriptions (Felicia)

2/25/2021: Version 1.0
-Basic commands and character move lists added
-Extra functions, secrets, etc. added
-There is more I hope to add

To do:

-Fix Akari move list names
-Yuri, Akari, and O. Iori Olympic Move names need double checking
-May separate throws on move lists to provide basic throw info/throw names
-BGM information (also on movelists)
-Backgrounds information
-Additions to Olympic section
-In-depth Console Link information
-Does HIDE in Set Up only apply to the system that has ON, or does only one having it make it the default for both?
(separate from Nintendo Switch, which duplicates save)
-Any compatibility issues with Console Link versions (if EU version of KOF Dream Match 1999 can connect, etc)
-Difference between Capcom vs SNK and Capcom vs SNK Pro link functions?
