Robert Lawrence "Clarence" Viars, 83 years of age, of Patterson, VA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 23, 2024. He was born on December 29, 1940, in Slate Creek, VA. He was the son of the late Raymond and Lillie Viars.
Clarence was a member of the Wilderness Tabernacle of Osborne Mountain and a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, VA. He enjoyed being outdoors, going to flea markets, animals, and spending time with his family. In his younger days Clarence enjoyed handling horses and going to horse shows.
In addition to his parents Raymond and Lillie Viars, he is preceded in death by his loving wife Sylvia Jean Horn Viars, and brothers Rufus Viars and Lewis Viars.
Those left to cherish his memory include sons Garry Viars and wife Sandy, Robert "Robbie" Viars and wife Lori, Brian Viars, all of Abingdon, VA; daughter Kimberly Cleveland and husband Tim of Bristol, VA; sisters Florence Mullins of Paynesville, WV, Mary Jane Stacy of Hurley, VA, Brenda Vance and husband Gene of Paynesville, WV, June Sweeney of Bluefield, VA, Judy Viars of Bluefield, VA, Patsy Daniels and husband Clell of Roanoke, VA, Lois Blankenship and husband Curtis of Grundy, VA; brothers Berlin Viars and wife Norma of Raven, VA, Jimmy Viars and wife Gayle of Tazewell, VA, Freddie Viars and wife Bonnie of Pilgrims Knob, VA, Josh Viars and wife Diane of Patterson, VA, Thomas Hess and wife Reda of Hurley, VA, and Ralph Viars and wife Karen of Jewell Ridge, VA.
He is also survived by grandchildren Angelica Keen and husband Trey, Nick Mullins, Chris Viars and wife Katherine, Tyler Viars and wife Kristen, Brian Viars and wife Megan, Jacob Viars Johnna Viars, Donna Delp, Alisha Viars, Tanya Keller; great grandchildren Weston, Dakota, Kali, Madison, Reagan, Denver, Leland, Ireland, Jaden and Sophia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Robert Lawrence "Clarence" Viars will be held Friday, April 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home, Keen Mountain, VA with Pastor Billy Harrison officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Wilderness Tabernacle.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday after 6:00 p.m. with an evening service beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The funeral will be livestreamed on the funeral homes Facebook page.
