Cowboys And Dreamers features a special tribute to country legend Waylon Jennings.
At 72, George Strait still creates standout music, and his new album proves it. One of the biggest highlights of the project is his cover of Waylon Jennings’ “Waymore’s Blues,” a song he has performed live for years.
The original track, which is from Jennings’ 1975 album Dreaming My Dreams, showcases Jennings’ unique style and voice. Dreaming My Dreams was released as his 22nd studio album and was later certified Gold by the RIAA. Curtis Buck and Jennings himself co-wrote “Waymore’s Blues,” which sits as the second track on the album.
You can listen to Waylon Jennings sing the song live in the video below.
Often referred to as the “Outlaw King of Country Music,” Jennings made a lasting mark on the genre with his distinct artistry. Given that both Strait and Jennings have significantly shaped country music throughout their successful careers, Strait’s official version of the “Waymore’s Blues” is a fitting homage to the late icon.
George Strait uploaded an official audio clip of his cover of “Waymore’s Blues” to his YouTube channel. Several fans left praising comments under the video:
“The King of Country covering Ol’ Waylon is what I needed.”
“Some solid Waylon!”
“Best artist to ever touch the mic…truly The King.”
“George never makes a bad song. His band and back singers are great.”
