This visit was late May with several family members on a recent trip to upstate NY. Cousins said this was a "must visit" if we were already going down to The MET Cloisters and we would be close enough to view both worthy destinations. It was quite warm but comfortable walking through the gardens. An enormous and stately Beech tree was the first to catch my eye. A great photo shoot opportunity! Hand crafted chairs akin to a scaled down Art Craft styled Adirondack chair were scattered under trees and a bench under a formal columned overlook for viewing gave beautiful resting spots. There are buildings with events and special exhibits but we opted for viewing outside on this trip. A small gift shop has a variety of things to take home and some exquisite jewelry. The cafe is completely organic and using sustainable tableware. Plantings and trees were everywhere as well as particular gardens; herb garden, aquatic garden. I saw the most magnificent peonies I have ever seen. For a peaceful, serene space in the day visit Wave Hill!

make sure to allocate several hours as YOU WILL WANT to make a complete walk of the entire gardens, greenhouses and paths. just so much native plants, flowers, trees, and on and on. do half, making sure to sit on many of the specially designed benches of stone and wood, then go to the cafe for a quick energy boost to do the 2nd half. i wouldnt want to name any special plants etc as that would ignore the ones i miss....and there are thousands. best part might be going home and then stopping at a nursery to TRY and add a piece of what you absorbed at this hidden gem in your own home!!! and at this riverdale location you miss any traffic digesting at the henry hudson bridge-thats a bonus. z"l ruth schapira

Wave Hill is a jewel-box beautiful garden and former home on an overlook in the northwest corner of the Bronx. The views of the Hudson River and the NJ Palisades are stunning. It is particularly resplendent in the fall when the fall foliage color flourishes. There are occasional exhibits in the house and there is a small cafe. If you are a fan of the TV show, Billions, one of the outdoor funeral scenes was shot at Wave Hill. Worth a visit if in the area. Not sure it is worth a trip in itself because it is small.
A hidden gem.( I have been here about 5 times.)

Great place to relax and do nothing. Appropriate for all age groups, friends, family, etc...
Small but nice. Not a lot to see but very restful, peaceful and just great place to stop and smell the flowers. There us a nature walk. This is small but through the woods. So, be careful. There are bathrooms to use and a very small cafe. The have pre-packaged meals. They are good. Some drinks and snacks. If you have nothing to do, it's worth a look.

Wave Hill has it all, beautiful views, historical meanderings, room for the kids to roam and, even, a place to get a bottled water and coffee.

Bring your most comfortable shoes as it is "hilly" and can get "chilly" by the Hudson.

Fall is a favorite time of the year but I love Wave Hill in the summer when the breeze off the Hudson cools one perfectly while the city below is steamy and hard on the eyes.

We all long to visit special spots that feel exclusive, elegant and enchanting.

Wave Hill does not disappoint.

Pretend, for just an afternoon, that this is your family's estate and bring along your favorite book of poetry and a blanket and read some poems aloud to a dear friend.

I loved it there, very nice and peaceful. A hidden treasure in the Bronx, couldn't believe I am so close to it and never been there before. Lots of different trees, flowers and birds. I believe it is the first Saturday of the month that the entrance is free before 12pm

Wave Hill doesn't rank among the largest or best-known gardens and parks in New York City, but it may well be the most special. Located on the Hudson River in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, Wave Hill offers indoor and outdoor gardens, an art gallery, a nice gift shop, a mansion that was once the home of many notables, and beautiful grounds with a magnificent view of the river and the palisades in New Jersey. The recently renovated mansion now has a lovely cafe with a nice menu for lunch. Parking is available with quick shuttle service. Exhibits and a variety of educational and cultural programs change regularly, and memberships are offered. You can come for an hour's visit or grab one of the lawn chairs to spend the afternoon reading and enjoying the views.

It's a must see estate and garden in the Hudson Hill section of the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx. Just follow the signs to Wave Hill from the 249th Street exit off the Henry Hudson Parkway. It's a beautiful scenic route that takes you past the Cloisters Museum. I would have never known about it had I not purchased the New York Pass. The pass allowed us admission to the gardens. We only paid $8 for parking.

It truly is the best kept secret of the Bronx. The view of the Palisades and the George Washington Bridge was the main attraction for me. The surrounding gardens are amazing and well-kept. I can see why couples choose to have their wedding photos taken here. Make sure you bring a camera to capture the beauty that surrounds you. It was the highlight of our trip to NYC. What's amazing is that many people in the city don't know about this place, or don't take the time to explore it. My only regret is that we didn't have enough time to walk along the woodland trails, or have coffee in the café. I would visit it at least once a month if I were living in the city. It's such a beautiful and peaceful place. A great respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Amazing views! This was my oasis in the bronx when i was single. too many rules for families with small kids. They need to get over themselves and their demand to make money. It is unacceptable. This should be a park for the public, not a preserve for elite nature lovers.

I attended an awesome workshop and then had the opportunity to share the experiences with my class. My class was able to see the amazing view, check out the gardens and participate in a workshop geared for them.
