Walt Whitman High School Reviews
Rating 4.02 out of 5 270 reviews
The best parts are probably getting involved in clubs and student run programs. There’s a lot of independence when it comes to the students, and it introduces us to the real world, where not everything has to be directed by someone else. It’s a great opportunity that Whitman provides. The grind culture, however, is very prominent. Everyone wants to do the most in order to feel worthy, and that bleeds into actual academics. Getting rid of on-level classes is an example of this. The workload is heavy, and on top of extracurriculars and SAT studying, it creates a lot of room for stress and even more taxing effects on mental health. While the classes and academics make you go really in depth into all the material and make it stick in your brain, piling up work in every class to do that is a toll on all students.
Walt Whitman High School has an academically rigorous and friendly environment, located in Bethesda, Maryland. Students enjoy engaging in sports, clubs, and school spirit, and holds a welcoming reputation for all students. The staff and faculty are caring and understanding. I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 years at Whitman!
It's a good school. Large emphasis on academic success and most students are very motivated and smart. This creates a very competitive environment that some students including myself don't necessarily love, but it is good because it motivates you to be as successful as some of your peers. I would like to see more emphasis on mental health and helping students with the college process.
