January 1979: Pink Floyd began seven months of intermittent recording at Super Bear Studios and Studio Miraval in France on their next album, The Wall.
1 September 1979: Two months of work began on The Wall at CBS Studios, New York with The New York Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor/arranger Michael Kamen. Floyd later worked on The Wall at Los Angeles' Cherokee Studios and Producers Workshop.
1 November 1979: Pink Floyd began a week's recording and mixing at The Producers Workshop in Los Angeles.
23 November 1979: Pink Floyd's single Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2 (B-side: One Of My Turns) was released in the UK. It was the group's first UK single since Point Me At The Sky in 1968, and spent four weeks at No. 1 in the charts.
30 November 1979: The Wall was released in the UK and reached No. 3 in the charts.
8 December 1979: The Wall was released in the US and reached No. 1 in the charts.
Aside from slightly different Wall-patterns, colouring and (separated) stickers on front, the first UK pressings can be recognized by "Produced by David Gilmour" printed inside the right side of the gatefold sleeve, instead of "Written by Roger Waters", as well as different credit arrangements within the bricks.
U.S. promotional copies must include a specially printed label with "DEMONSTRATION NOT FOR SALE" printed on the labels. Some were issued with gold promo stamp on cover, some with DJ Timestrip & gold stamp, but those with only a stamp and/or sticker are not to be considered promotional copies unless they feature the special promotional labels, as stamps/stickers are considered post-production modifications thus not meeting Discogs Guidelines 65101 6.12.1-4 for promotional releases.
This master release only contains the album as originally released in 1979. The motion picture of the same name can be found here: The Wall

- Picked up my copy yesterday at the Austin Record Show. My version has the gold stamped promo, sticker and timing stamp. Record is near mint and was the pick up of the year for me.
- The issue with these forums is that you have people posting lies to drop the price or people lying to inflate them. I own pressings that I trash on the forums and I have copies I would never sell that I rave about. With that being said, people who are claiming that this pressing is trash, are not being truthful in the least. This is a half speed master that is gorgeous. The presentation, the soundstage, everything. If you want a US Original copy of The Wall, go spend 25 bucks and get one. It certainly does not sound bad. But don't come here to trash a record that is 15-20 times the price if you don't own it. Just my 2 cents.
- Just obtained a sealed mint copy of this 1st press Pitman and it sounds sensational. Rich, smooth & silky dynamics - a superbly produced album that is faithfully delivered (again) by the Pitman plant.
- In reference to variant 3. As a stand alone edition this is a good remaster, but when compared to that unique early Canadian release, well, there is no comparison to be fair. You heard it... you can't unhear it.
- I agree this is the "worst" pressing of the 2016 remasters. Had to wash it multiple times. A1 has a very loud repeating pop for about two minutes and visible scratches. Apart from that it sounds great, full and very dynamic on my system, though it is a little low on volume.

have listened. Confortably numb is also Censored and end after the First Solo. there is no Second verse or Final Solo- I saw a comment that this is digital: I think they have the wrong version. This is not digital as far as I’ve heard. What was the source of that information? It’s from 1982, so very low probability of it being digital.

I guess it is that time to add my two cents. I bought this new @ GNP Stereo, Pasadena, CA in 1983 with my friend who bought the MFSL Dark Side of the Moon. LOL. Its my best piece of wax that I have. As an earlier reviewer stated, its got that analog goeyness and warmth and oh so quiet. I have never AB'd it against a British press but I really dont care. It has only been played 1/2 dozen times to tape.
