“You make the rules, and we will break them!” were the words that introduced D-Generation X. In the late 90s, WWF took a group of great athletes, put them in a frat house, and mixed up a lot of attitudes in them to get the result that was D-Generation X. The faction led by Triple H and Shawn Michaels was a rebellious WWF group. These guys defined the Attitude Era, as they were full of ego and had only two words for their foes: Suck It!

DX contributed greatly to 90s American pop culture with their quintessential crotch chop. The game being the dominance source even brought Chyna, his bodyguard, to the mix, adding dominance to the stable. Rick Rude joined the faction as the insurance policy supported them from the ringside. The faction connected with the audience due to their heel nature and anti-authority culture that rose in America in the late 1990s.

D-Generation X, formed in October 1997, had a remarkable run for several months. The stable added more members later on and continued their dominance in the absence of HBK. The heel faction has given WWE Universe numerous fonder memories and still looks to reunite at times for nostalgia.

10. Masking against Sgt. Slaughter

The go-home episode of Raw is War before Survivor Series 1997 was notable for DX. The running joke about Sgt. Slaughter spitting while his talks were taken to another level by Michaels and HHH. Slaughter came out to discuss Ken Shamrock’s match with HBK but instead had to face insults from them.

When the Sergeant held the mic to reply, DX took out their masks and prevented his spit from getting on their faces. They again went back to apply mini wipers to clean the spit. This was one of the initial moments when DX got under the skin of someone and established themselves as the hateful yet pleasing heels.

9. Mike Tyson joins DX

Going into WrestleMania 14, DX was in talks all over the place and had the required gold. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was to face Shawn at Mania, rumored to have a special enforcer. On March 2, 1998, in the episode Raw is War, Mike Tyson and his crew came to the show and confronted DX.

Both stars alone in the ring roamed around until a point where Tyson provoked him. But the planned segment then saw HBK tear Mike’s shirt and reveal DX’s shirt that he wore inside. Nonetheless, the faction’s music hit confirmed that the boxing legend had joined the stable for Michaels’ sake.

7. New members to replace Shawn Michaels

Raw after WrestleMania 14 saw Triple H address the WWE Universe about Shawn’s retirement. His injury at the Royal Rumble that year was so serious that he dropped the ball sooner. The sole leadership of DX then came upon The Game’s shoulders, who thought of expanding the faction with new members.

X-Pac, a former WCW talent with the WWF Tag Team Champions, New Age Outlaws, became part of DX. The intended heel actions of the faction slowly transformed into babyface stables due to their popularity. Road Dogg and Billy Gunn fulfilled the stable with tag team actions feuding with a lot of stars.

8. Hall of Fame induction

It was no wonder that the iconic faction would have remained an ordinary part of wrestling history. To pay tribute to the members’ dedication, WWE inducted D-Generation X into the Hall of Fame in 2019. On April 6, 2019, DX reunited, reflected on their run, and paid tribute to the late Chyna.

Michaels claimed her to be the biggest trailblazer while dedicating the faction’s success to her. He even hilariously felt responsible for corrupting the children in the late 90s who got into trouble with the crotch chop. The men of DX looked old with their visible greys after offering colorful memories to ponder upon.

6. Impersonating the McMahons

On June 26, 2006, in an episode of Raw, DX impersonated Vince and Shane McMahon. The recently reunited DX team sought a hilarious way to mock the authority figures. HHH dressed as Vince in the formal look and walked with an undefined attitude. HBK wore a baseball jersey and danced like Shane.

This moment is still one of the iconic moments in the history of DX, with the star’s wit and acting skills. The promo delivery holds a special place as the references to mock the McMahons were out of this world. To stop the menace, real McMahons came out but real crap drowned him.

5. Raw 1000 reunion

DX has made their mark throughout numerous reincarnations. The iconic one happened on the 1000th episode of Raw on July 23, 2012. It was for the second time that five male members were sharing the ring and were on the same page. HBK, HHH, Gunn, Dogg, and X-Pac were a delight to watch.

Their crude humor saw a decline due to PG-14 regulations. All the pieces lay perfectly with the reunion until Damien Sandow interrupted the stable. The pleasing aura stayed the same but was multiplied as DX attacked Sandow verbally and physically to state their dominance.

4. DX parodies Nation of Domination

DX’s feud with the Nation of Domination took a controversial turn on the July 6, 1998, episode of Raw. The members of DX came out and impersonated NOD members as HHH mocked The Rock giving the name ‘The Crock’. Comedian Jason Sensation was also brought in to play Owen Hart with a big nose.

The promo was altogether a mocking ceremony for The Nation in the most verbal way. Jason turned Owen’s big nose was justified for the first time to be made for smelling what The Rock is cooking! The parody ended with DX’s classic address for the competitors with only two words: SUCK IT!

3. DX’s State of the Union Address

The February 2, 1998, episode of Raw is War opened with an address from DX. The segment showed HBK and HHH (with Chyna) stating that WWF was informed to reduce the use of specific racial or sexual slurs. The hilarious statement essentially mentioned having less reference to anybody’s genitalia.

But the final note from HBK remains a classic example of the Attitude Era to reference Bill Clinton’s statement. HBK said:

I did not sleep with that young intern – as a matter of fact, I was up..all…night!

This whole address was on point, as it informed the WWE Universe of new regulations while also shaping DX.

2. HHH and HBK win the Tag Team gold

DX was known for their misbehavior yet dominance over the roster to win the gold. New Age Outlaws were the DX members to hold the tag team championship for D-Generation X. But 2009 brought Shawn and HHH together as a tag team and gave them a Unified WWE Tag Team Championship.

On December 13, 2009, TLC was headlined by DX as they faced the team of Chris Jericho and Big Show (Jeri-Show). A TLC match saw the titles hanging and the winners needed to unhook the tag team gold. The chemistry of DX was visible in it as the closing moment saw HHH’s help to HBK grab the titles.

1. Invading WCW

WWF vs. WCW was gaining momentum in the competitive realm with ratings. However, DX did not think of handling the rivalry more simply and led an army on WCW. Taking the Monday Night Wars seriously, DX invaded WCW by showing up outside when Nitro was being filmed in Virginia.

On April 27, 1998, DX came down in a tank and took their first shot at showing the WWF’s dominance. The whole scenario benefited the stable, who played the heel action, getting babyface cheers. It was not only a draw for them, but WWF also took the upper hand in the wars as WCW denied responding.
