Steve Hackett – Voyage Of The Acolyte

Amazing record. Truly the lost genesis album, I recommend it for any genesis fan. Phil sings on star of Sirius, Rutherford plays bass. Some of these songs were even asked to be on genesis albums by Hackett.

This CD sounds totally out of place. What have they been thinking when they mastered this? The mids / treble and bass is just mindbogglingly bad. Just go check it out for yourself.

I agree with all the previous reviews reviews. This album should be in all Genesis/Steve Hackett/70s prog fan’s collections. Besides owning this 1st Charisma pressing (at least I think it is, look at all of those matrix variations!), I also have the first Japanese vinyl pressing which may be pressed with the same plates - it sounds identical except for having less surface noise. The Japanese used virgin vinyl and meticulous methods.
I also have the Steve Hackett box set which was released in 2016. That’s how I discovered the remastered 180 gram version now on Virgin Records (but with Charisma labels). I highly recommend this 2016 remastered vinyl pressing of “Voyage Of The Acolyte”! The box set is wonderful, but optional ;)
I suppose there is a high-resolution digital step in this fantastic sounding remaster, but if this causes one to avoid it just on principle, I think that would be a shame, as it was such an ear-opening revelation to hear it on vinyl with such sonic fidelity! Thankfully, at least for many, there’s always the all-analog versions to enjoy every once in a while!

I have this pressing and it sounds great. My copy has zero distortion and a very good soundstage with superb instrument separation and clarity.

I don't like this pressing. It sounds too distorted. Luckly mine is near mint so there are not a lot of pops and clips.
But don't get me wrong! This is a magnificent album.

Very full and rich sound. Loads better than my old CD, and I'm hearing new elements, though some of those elements are admittedly lots of clicks, pops and scratches...

Great album! Obviously it has Genesis flavour, but it still has the Hackett touch! Highly recommend it! The vinyl sounds really good too.

I really love this album and have had 2 copies on CD (one with the extended version of Shadow of the Hierophant)
So I had to get on vinyl of course! My version doesn’t seem to be listed here. I have a 1975 UK pressing, Charisma label, Steve Hackett M/S, CAS.1111 on Side A label, CAS 1111 on Side B label and matrix# CAS1111 A//1 C 13 2 ARUN, CAS1111 B//1 C 11 18.
Anyone with any more thoughts/info out there as to which variant this could be??

This is a wonderful album. The music is tremendous and moving in parts. Great pressing and one that deserves to sit amongst peak prog rock Genesis work.
