The infobox pictures show a 50 dong banknote and a 500 dong coin. This looks strange as the coin's nomination is ten times that of the banknote. Usually banknotes are more valuable than coins. Are the pictures from different years so inflation had the time to switch the real monetary values, or what is the explanation? JIP | Talk 23:13, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I honestly think that the useful picture that should be shown is 10.000vnd (1 dollar, 1 euro, 1 pound) which is a modern worth. 50 dong or 500 dong is useless. MichaelMerchant7829 (talk) 13:21, 11 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

đồng or dong?[edit]

Is "đồng" genuinely the "common name" for the currency in English? The State Bank of Vietnam does not use the diacritics on their English website, simply describing it as the "dong". I would like to propose moving this article to "Vietnamese dong". TheCurrencyGuy (talk) 14:49, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

From what I can tell different sources use different names, Remitly uses "Vietnamese đồng", while Investopedia uses "Vietnamese Dong" (with a capitalised "D"). In fact, I mostly seem to find either "đồng" or "Dong", I don't find the term "dong" (with a small letter "d") to be commonly used at all. --Donald Trung (talk) 07:07, 11 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources#Investopedia says there is no consensus that Investopedia is a reliable source, and links to four discussions.
MOS:CURRENCY says "Do not capitalize the names or denominations of currencies, currency subdivisions, coins and banknotes"
The following sources, all considered to be reliable sources by Wikipedia standards, use "dong" (no capital letter, no diacritics).
