- sharcar3045Stony Creek, NY165 contributionsWe enjoyed about a two hour visit to Schonbrunn Palace (1 hour wandering, 1 hour tour). If you’ve been to any other grand palaces in your travels, the two hours would be enough. I’m extremely pleased that we signed up for the Marie-Theresa guided tour in English (limited group size & times so book online. Online process is easy to navigate), it was only 5 euros more and took you into a couple of the Empress’ rooms that were quite impressive and that are not open to the general public. And you had a guide to ask such things as the “cobblestones“ in the tour waiting area are actually petrified wood, pretty amazing if anyone bothers to look down! Our guide was excellent, friendly & informative, and able to answer all questions. We were going to try to go to the Gloriette for lunch but clouds were threatening and we had not brought umbrellas. So perhaps we will save that for another time. IMPORTANT information, if you are taking one of the guided tours, there’s a corded off meeting area inside the entrance to the palace (back left corner doors from the entry courtyard). Go inside and along a covered carriage-way(?) where you will see the turnstiles where everyone enters. Just before the turnstiles on the left is a cordoned off area where the “personal guided tours” meet - there is a large sign but it is still a tad confusing. The turnstiles lane that says “guided tours” is for bus tours. Near this waiting area there are some interesting posters on the pillars about family history (in English as well), and there are several bench seats to wait on. Since this is inside, it is cooler when you’re waiting for your tour.Written May 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - William SSan Francisco, CA743 contributionsThe hype about the beauty of the buildings and and architecture is verifiable by this writer. The old town is elegant. easily walkable, and yes, the pastries and coffee is delicious around the historical area. Walk and drink up the history. Include Vienna on you list.Written May 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Travel with SeanMadison, WI265 contributionsOriginally built in 1160, but rebuilt in 1258, the cathedral has undergone numerous renovations and expansions over the centuries, most significantly in the 14th and 15th centuries. The cathedral's south tower, for example, was completed in 1433. The roof was destroyed by fire in the mid 1940s, but it was reconstructed exactly as it appeared before by 1952. Mozart's funeral took place here before he was buried.Written May 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 986richm39 contributionsAn impressive collective of famous and not so famous art from the late 1800s onwards. Monet, Degas, Renoir and the list goes on. Very popular and gets busy but not surprising. Plan a good half-day to do it justice.Written April 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lynne T8 contributionsI booked tickets in late Jan for my trip to Vienna April 27-May 2nd. I saw two superb shows: Die Kameliendame, which was the best and most moving ballet I have ever see . The 2nd show was an opera called L’Elisir. You cannot go to Vienna without seeing a performance. It was a priveledge.Written May 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
