Entertainer. A vocalist and actor, his most popular songs were "On The Street Where You Live" (1956) and "An Affair To Remember" (1957). Born Vito Rocco Farinola to an Italian family, his father was an electrician, his mother was a piano teacher, Vic dropped out of high school to pursue a career as a singer. After undertaking singing lessons, he first gained exposure with Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts. This was followed by a period as a recording artist under the Mercury label. Among his singles during this time include "I Have But One Heart" (1947), "You Do" (1947) and "Say Something Sweet To Your Sweetheart" (1948, a duet with Patti Page). He achieved star status with his version of the single "Again" (1948), and had his own radio program during the late 1940s. This popularity led to films and he made his motion picture debut in the Musical "Rich, Young and Pretty" (1951). During the Korean War, Damone was stationed in Germany with the United States Army. After signing with the Columbia label, he recorded what perhaps is his most identifiable album "That Towering Feeling!" (1956). His single "On The Street Where You Live" (1956) achieved a number 4 placing on the American Pop Chart. His hit "An Affair To Remember" (1957) was heard in the Cary Grant picture of the same title. Other acting roles include the films "Athena" (1954), "Hit the Deck" (1955), "Kismet" (1955) and "Hell to Eternity" (1960). Additionally, he hosted his own TV series from 1956 to 1957. In 1965, he achieved a Top 30 hit with "You Were Only Fooling." He remained an active performer until the early 2000s. He was formerly married to actresses Pier Angeli and Diahann Carroll. Damone received a star for his work in the recording industry on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
