- Sounds like I expected! Very quiet vinyl, great soundstage, very dynamic & detailed. Puts me right there in 1970! 2 blues legends on a legendary label! Thank you Speakers Corner & Pallas! I highly recommend this pressing.
- My copy is flat and sounds wonderful. Very quiet vinyl with nice soundstage. The mastering is very consistent with other Speakers Corner releases in that it is very neutral.
Wonderful music beautifully presented. Easy to recommend. referencing Play The Blues (LP, Album, Limited Edition, Reissue, Remastered, 180 gram, Transluscent Gold) FRM-38364
A phenomenal pressing with dynamic balance that really brings out the best in each track. Buddy & Junior is a no-brainer for blues fans and this release is incredible. The funk is so fresh!- Agree with every word revellidrum wrote. Excellent pressing, top mastering. MOV just made good job.
- Payed $63.88 f/this "deluxe edition"; why? Because I heard "Stone crazy"(from the sample tunes on one of these websites)-and it captured me-the musician in me, I guess, said "I got to have it"-and so purchased this cd from a UK seller(from Discogs of course)-it came brand new, but after purchasing and hearing this cd again, was disappointed w/it and I agree w/Adam A.s' comments about this lp-it just doesn't 'bring it' for me...and yes I've never paid this much money f/an lp/cd, and after hearing and liking a certain track then not liking it the next time I heard it(which was only about 2 weeks after 1st hearing it, on again, one of these websites(just can't remember which one at this time).
- Another decent reissue from Music On Vinyl. Excellent sound. Dead quiet and a nice flat and weighty record. Textured cover and sharp photo reproductions. However, somebody in the art department must've gotten their wires crossed with this one. The front cover shows the Atco logo, but M.O.V. went with the Atlantic label on the actual record (and a slightly askew one at that). This record does appear on the Atlantic label in some markets, but those usually have the Atlantic logo on the sleeve as well. Other than that, I'm happy with it. It's one of my all-time favorite blues albums, loaded with great tunes and great playing. Recommended, however you can get it.
- Edited 3 years agoMy record sounds perfect.
High dynamic and a perfect pressing, over all a wonderful and magic record.
Speakers Corner did a great job. - Edited 2 years agoI love Buddy Guy and I love Junior Wells. But for my tastes this duet album feels somewhat less than stellar. I'm surprised to be saying it, but it doesn't give those feelings of coolness, raw energy or excitement that I typically get from the best of their solo works. There are some absolutely fine tracks, and the energy is there almost throughout. But overall, a lot of this blues feels contemporary for the 1970s and as such it hasn't aged as well as other albums. Not sure if this is also a problem with the original LP, but this reissue feels somewhat lifeless. So, a perfectly fine album to have in one's blues collection. I just wish it was more than the sum of its parts. At points, it actually feels less so.
- Edited 3 years agoGreat music but despite getting the Kevin Gray/Pallas treatment, I think the dynamics are fairly weak on this one. It might just be the recording as I dont' have an original to compare it to. I've noticed that with a lot of Speakers Corners reissues I've been getting, hmmm.
