Insiders And Vendian Entertainment Close Multi-Year, Multi-Picture Financing Deal – Cannes

EXCLUSIVE: In its second corporate pact in as many days, sales company Insiders has closed a multi-year, multi-picture production financing deal with Vendian Entertainment. As part of the deal, which was brokered by CAA, Vendian will provide financing for a majority of the films on Insiders’ slate. Those pics include modern noir crime thriller Under The Silver Lake written and to be directed by David Robert Mitchell, with Andrew Garfield and Dakota Johnson set to star. Michael DeLuca is producing alongside Chris Bender and Jake Weiner in addition to Adele Romanski. Christopher Woodrow and Michael Bassick will exec produce for Vendian. A24 acquired the U.S. rights and will release the film domestically.

Vendian and Insiders previously announced they would co-finance and produce Sean Penn’s upcoming crime drama Flag Day and Michael Mann’s biopic Enzo Ferarri.

Yesterday, Insiders said it was forming a joint venture with MadRiver Pictures called IMR International. That new entity will handle international sales across all Insiders and MadRiver films and aim to offer 12-16 films a year. MadRiver’s Kim Fox will lead the JV’s operations out of Los Angeles. Vendian also has a strategic investment in MadRiver Pictures.

Insiders was only launched at last year’s Cannes film festival by Wild Bunch CCO Vincent Maraval and with CAA consulting the company. In February, Chinese media company Bliss acquired a stake in it alongside Wild Bunch and Cine France.

“We are very happy to reinforce our business relationship with Vendian,” said Maraval. “They have already proved to be solid and tasteful partners on many occasions in the past.”

Earlier this week, Vendian and Wild Bunch announced a multi-year first-look deal with Nicolas Winding Refn’s Space Rocket. Under this deal, the partnership will have a first option to provide financing for Space Rocket’s artistic and edgy commercial feature films for an international audience by Refn and other directors, and to build up a new generation of innovative filmmakers. Maniac Cop the first in a horror thriller trilogy, will be the initial project financed and produced under the agreement.

Vendian, Wild Bunch and Refn previously partnered on The Neon Demon, which Refn wrote and directed. Starring Elle Fanning and produced by Lene Borglum of Space Rocket, The Neon Demon world premieres in competition later this week at Cannes.

Vendian’s upcoming releases include Gary Ross’s Free State Of Jones, starring Matthew McConaughey; Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge, starring Garfield; Doug Liman’s Mena, starring Tom Cruise; and Oliver Stone’s Snowden, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
