Canucks Assign Vasily Podkolzin To Abbotsford Ahead Of Second-Round Matchup With Ontario - The Hockey News Vancouver Canucks News, Analysis and More Skip to main content

The Vancouver Canucks have assigned Vasily Podkolzin to the Abbotsford Canucks ahead of the team's second-round matchup against the Ontario Reign. Podkolzin split the season between the NHL and AHL, recording 28 points in 44 games with Abbotsford this season. The move not only provides a significant boost to the AHL Canucks lineup but also guarantees Podkolzin plays meaningful games this spring.

This move is not unexpected, as Rick Tocchet alluded to it before Game 5. Vancouver's coach told the media, "If he doesn't play tonight, he's a guy that will go play a game, and then we can always have him come back because of the rules. He's definitely got to go play a game, for sure, and we've talked about that." Podkolzin has been a healthy scratch through the first five games of the series, with the Canucks electing to go with a more experienced lineup to start the postseason.

Abbotsford kicks off their five-game series against the Reign tonight in Ontario. The Reign have elected to start the series at home, with the last three games of the matchup being held in Abbotsford. This is the second consecutive year the Canucks have made the second round, with last year's run coming to a close in a four-game series against the Calgary Wranglers.
