  Si nos tomamos unos minutos y echamos un vistazo al contenido más visto por los colombianos en los últimos años, seguramente nos encontremos con una serie de producciones que estan relacionadas con alguna de estas temáticas: humor, droga o violencia.

  Esta es la razón por la que nuestro presupuesto para el desarrollo cinematográfico está en manos de sagas como El Paseo (2010) o series de TV que glorifican nuestro peculiar talento para las actividades ilícitas.

  Born with a genetic disorder, Pii (as F.), looks after his speechless and incapacitated father, who is catatonic due to a neurological disease, alone in a high mountain tundra ecosystem in Colombia, Sumapaz Páramo, isolated from the world, where no filmmaker has ever been with camera. Wandering among stunningly beautiful and intrinsically surprising plant communities, Pii is one of the last of the farmers who have been literally executed or driven out by the corporate and mining mafias that have expropriated the area.

  "Lo más creativo es lo más personal" Bong Joon Ho repitiendo una frase de Martin Scorsese

  Entre La Niebla es, fácilmente, una de las películas más fascinantes e hipnotizantes que he podido ver.

  Si bien la película cuenta con muy poco o nada de diálogo, sus imágenes son tan dicientes que no hay necesidad de voces que refuerzen el mensaje.

  La cinta es un relato fantástico que nos lleva por un viaje entre la naturaleza mientras somos testigos de la vida, la muerte, la familia y de la conexión de la naturaleza con su protagonista.

  Un filme tremendamente íntimo, pero que me conmovió hasta el último pedazo de alma que tengo.

  Al final, me ha dejado sin palabras y completamente sorprendido por la experiencia tan maravillosa que había tenido.

  Un potente y hermoso recordatorio que en Colombia si se puede hacer cine.

  Modernity creeps through the landscape of our planet, a slowly encroaching beast that cares not whether anyone truly desires to accept the new way of life it offers. In the far reaches of the earth, high in the mountains, enshrouded in mist, tradition lives on, within people who understand and feel the motion and heartbeat of the planet. A carefully balanced ecosystem, man and the dirt beneath in a symbiotic relationship, each tending to each other as has been carefully achieved for millennia.   while the ending of the road of this story goes through is very exciting, the journey there is unfortunately quite dull. i liked what the director was going for and this world we’re in looks & sounds fantastic, but the overall picture isn’t interesting enough to justify its 80 minutes. i was never bored per se, but watching F go through his everyday activities without a greater goal isn’t too engaging. it feels like a film that’s going for a poetic, hypnotic meditation on love and preserving earth, and while it succeeds in some places, mostly it unfortunately falls flat.

  Vale la pena verla, una experiencia lenta, confusa y clara, se siente pesada. Aunque las escenas relacionadas con la sexualidad no son necesarias -únicamente un segundo de una de ellas me parece valiosa-, y la aparición de los textos no es la mejor, el resto de imágenes cautivan. Es una película de procesar, de esas que se quedan rondando la mente.

  Es una película con una creación de mundo imprescindible, con escenas experimentales que demuestran una creatividad única y con manejo del sonido intrigante y sombrío remarcable; pero que lamentablemente son desperdiciados en un producto que más que una película parece un collage de ideas pegadas una con otra sin ningún contexto, razón o significado.

  Es tan vacío e incoherente que es irritante. Intenta dar un mensaje serio sobre la guerra y la violencia que ocurre en el páramo de Sumapaz, pero se encuentra enterrado en capas y capas de escenas sin sentido y sin dirección, haciendo que aquel mensaje se sienta como un pastiche.

  Y no quiero descreditar el trabajo de este director, porque se ve que es talentoso, pero…

  Bound to disappoint when you're expecting a film about amphibians

  A Vanishing Fog is another eco-activist film from Colombia that is addressing climate change while rooted in magical realism.

  Filming took place in the topographical phenomenon of Páramo of Sumapaz – a delicate ecosystem formed by various Alpine tundra essential for Bogotá’s water source. The story centers on F (Sebastian Pii in a striking debut performance) who is tasked with protecting this ecosystem and caring for his ailing father. F is learning English to plan his escape for North America.

  Written and directed by Augusto Sandino, his screenplay is mostly silent. Sandino images capturing industrial devastation are steeped in sci-fi, documentary, and fantasy. During the few times characters speak, their language is made up like “Twin Peaks” backward manner.

  Although it is cryptic, “A Vanishing Fog” is a splendid subversive vision of a dying planet. It will alienate a fair amount of people but for those than can tune into its bizarre frequency, you will not regret it.

  I was pretty blown away by A Vanishing Fog, a film which eschews traditional narrative for dialog-free surrealism that engenders and abstracts a myriad forces destroying F’s native land and way of life. We see images such as a feast of fruit, with only a wedge of each eaten — outsiders abusing the land for outsourced commercial profit and throwing away the people’s nourishment. Mining blasting becomes a war zone, where air sirens and radio announcements even further suggest geopolitical conflict. Global warming plays in: plants withering, a moth toppling over. The whole film feels like a nightmare, with imagery reminding me a bit of Lois Patiño, not the least in a river of blood flowing from the dying earth.…
