My friend and I have been taking in one or 2 European games every year for the last 5 years or so, and we returned to the Veltins recently for another match. This stadium is very impressive and easily the best we have seen in Germany, including Munich's stadium. The whole experience is fantastic, from the pre-match fan zones around the stadium to the match experience itself. The food outlets are numerous and very well run, but you need to purchase a pre paid card, as the outlets don't accept cash. The atmosphere inside the stadium is electric, and you cant help but enjoy the experience. If you can only ever do one German game, then this is the one.

A short ride north of the 'mosquito church' (otherwise too difficult town name to recall), this is a major sports event. The green around is joyous for activity. Not much else around nor on the shopping front nor dining options. Enjoy

Went here for a wee football tourist trip with my brother to watch Schalke vs Wolfsburg.

I found it nothing special to look at from the outside, but there was plenty activity around the outside of the stadium to keep the supporters entertained, including a stage with a live band, football related games, beer and food stalls. You do have to queue for a bit to get into the stadium due to stringent security checks, but I found it amusing that you could carry your pint of beer into the stadium with you, as if I tried that in any SPL ground I would have been arrested.

The stadium inside itself is stunning. A complete modern sporting arena with a retractable roof that amplifies the noise of the crowd to deafening levels. We got cracking seats near the front next to the away support who were incredibly noisy too which made for a cracking atmosphere for the full 90 minutes. There was plenty of beer and food stalls so not much waiting time at half-time for your beers etc, although you have to buy a pre-paid card to buy them. However, there did not seem to be many toilet facilities, and my brother missed 10 minutes of the second half waiting in line to use the toilet. But other than that it was a great day out in there and opened my eyes to what a proper football day out should be instead of the many dead and sterile atmospheres you get in many English and Scottish grounds.

Totally recommend coming here at some point to take in a game. You won't be disappointed, in fact my brother and I are planning to go back this March/April.

Huge arena, all undercover - didn't like the fact you had to buy a card that you used on food/drink inside and then got whatever was left refunded....

I have been to this stadium many times and always look forward to going again. It is large, modern and with great unobstructed views from everywhere. The atmosphere is always special and the stadium easy to get to by public transport, which is a help for visitors. Well worth a visit if you have not been.

Filthy stadium & fans. Broken glass and bottles everywhere on the grounds and a nightmare to leave the stadium.

Very unwelcoming even to NEUTRAL visitors. Will now forever cheer against them- enjoy the 2. Bundesliga🤣

First experience of a Bundesliga game, and it was a brilliant location. Getting tickets was also easy from the other side of the world via the Schalke website. Very good lighting at the stadium, and great at presenting a video about the mining history of the area before the game in order to create a certain mood. I was also impressed by the people sitting next to us managing to each drink 18 large cups of beer during the game. The triangular cardboard cup holders that can each carry 6 cups in a linear arrangement is a design masterpiece. Only negative aspect was smoking being allowed, and hence I felt like I had been in a pub from the 1990s by the end of the game. A very old-fashioned policy
