Sparks & Shadows release Bear McCreary's score for the documentary Unrest. The film, directed by Jennifer Brea, chronicles her ordeal suffering from ME, more commonly known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Twenty-eight year-old Brea is working on her PhD at Harvard and months away from marrying the love of her life when she gets a mysterious fever that leaves her bedridden and looking for answers. Determined to live, she turns her camera on herself and her community - a hidden world of millions confined to their homes and bedrooms by ME...

Unrest marks a couple of firsts for composer Bear McCreary's career. It's his first time composing for a documentary. In addition he got to write for and orchestrate the sounds of an MRI machine - another first.

I always look forward to reviewing a McCreary score. They're always very different, which proves what a versatile composer he is. And, while I might not enjoy some of this releases as well as others, I am aware of how expertly he writes for the subject matter.

With Unrest, it's another interesting score, but probably not one I'll listen to all that often (unlike his work on Da Vinci's Demons; Defiance; Moon Breakers).

Of this score's 15 tracks (46 min, 52 sec) 'I Am Still Here' is the one stand out track. I also noted that 'The White Board' reminded me of his work on Da Vinci's Demons; whilst 'Jessica' was incredibly similar in style to 'Glasgow Love Theme' from Craig Armstrong's score for Love Actually.
