I am a recent transfer student from Houston Community College. Discovering Austin and attending UT has been a very rewarding yet challenging experience. The curriculum is fast paced but the professors are experts at helping their students out as much as possible. I have attended multiple study groups with unlimited resources to prepare for the exams. As for a city, I have learned that there are a million coffee shops to explore as well food trucks, bakeries, and cool art shows. The metro system is pretty organized and I get to ride for free using my UT ID, but i will say that understanding the various times and routes can be time consuming. Overall this city is extremely expensive but with some time and budgeting anyone can do it!
Out of State Students, Stay Away!
Our son just started at UT in Austin. To cut to the chase, they are not welcoming of out of state students even though they want your 4x tuition money. Just about every program they have for aid, merit, grants, and other scholastic funds are reserved only for in-state students. While they are a state school, the services and programs offered to in state students ony is completely disproportionate. In fact, all adminstrative staff is incredibly dismissive of out of state students from day 1. Parents, if you're considering this school for your out of state kid, I would do some research on this topic, Had we known what we know now, we would not have sent our kid there. In fact, we think he will most likely transfer out to a more friendly school towards out of state students--financially and culturally. Texas pride is one thing but it's a cult of favors and money for in-state students only.

My experience at UT Austin has been great so far! I love being in the city and meeting new people. My favorite part about this campus is the wide variety of ways to connect with others. This campus has a great sense of community!
One thing I would like to see change is an improvement with UT websites. Trying to complete things like tuition payments and housing became difficult at times due website crashing, faulty links and things of that nature.
Overall, my experience here has been amazing and I’m looking forward to spending the rest of my four years here as a Longhorn!
