Fall 2024 Regular Admission Release - Undergraduate Admissions

Fall 2024 Regular Admission Release

There has never been a better time to become a Tennessee Volunteer. More students than ever before have applied to join the Volunteer family and light the way for future Volunteers.

Fall 2024 Class

As Tennessee’s land-grant and flagship university, UT is committed to providing an accessible and affordable education to qualified Tennessee residents. In Fall 2023, as a sign of this commitment, the UT Board of Trustees approved an In-state Guaranteed Admissions Policy, expanding access to a college degree for Tennesseans to retain the state’s best and brightest students.

In alignment with the Board’s recent action, UT plans to enroll a first-year class with two-thirds in-state residents as part of our flagship, land-grant mission. Due to this enrollment target, the increase in applications for admission, and the outstanding academic quality of our application pool, it will be more difficult for an out-of-state applicant to be admitted. The admission rate for out-of-state applicants is 23.7% (see below for more details).

All applicants who do not qualify for guaranteed admission are reviewed using a holistic approach that takes into consideration the rigor of high school curriculum, academic progression, standardized test scores, academic program of interest, campus and academic program capacity, and extracurricular or leadership activities and community impact.

Second Decision Release

February 29, 2024 at 7 p.m. ET | UT will release the second round of admission decisions for those who applied by December 15 and completed their application by required deadlines, and for those whose decisions were deferred during the first admissions release. Applicants will receive one of the following decisions:

  • Admit: Students offered First-Year Admission for Fall 2024
  • Invite to Join the Waitlist: Students can opt-in to join the waitlist and pursue three pathway programs (UT Access Collaborative, Verto Vols & Rocky Top Transfer) that lead to UT enrollment. Students who opt-in to join the waitlist will be contacted if capacity becomes available.
  • Pathway Programs: Students are denied First-Year Admission for Fall 2024. Select students from this group will be invited to participate in one of two pathway programs: UT Access Collaborative, or Rocky Top Transfer.
  • Deny: Students denied for Fall 2024 are encouraged to consider a transfer pathway in the future.
