The Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP) is recognized for its pioneering and excellence in teaching and research. It was founded in 1912 and established in 1913. In 1931, the current building of the medical school was formally opened. In 1934, it became part of the Universidade de São Paulo.

FMUSP offers five undergraduate courses: Medicine, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy and, most recently, the new course in Medical Physics. The Medicine course is located in the Pinheiros campus, with a built area of ​​44,000 square meters and the Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy courses are located in Cidade Universitária, occupying an area of ​​6,000 square meters. The Medical Physics course is taught at night at the Faculty of Medicine (FM) and at the Institute of Physics (IF), in Cidade Universitária. FMUSP has 1,400 undergraduate students, more than 1,000 employees, including 368 professors; more than 2,000 graduate students and more than 1,600 residents. It has 29 Stricto sensu graduate programs (academic master, professional master and doctorate); 93 specialty residency programs; 210 specialized complementation programs; 21 professional training and continued education programs and courses; 14 residency programs in Health areas and 13 Lato Sensu specialization courses.

An average of 3,600 new scientific articles are published each year. Hospital das Clínicas (HC) is part of FMUSP, and it's the largest hospital in Latin America with more than 1,5 million ambulatory consultations per year, more than 232,000 emergency room visits per year, and more than 50,000 surgeries per year.

The Hospital das Clínicas has 8 specialized institutes (Central Institute, Psychiatry Institute, Heart Institute, Radiology Institute, Cancer Institute, Children and Adolescent Institute, Orthopedics and Traumatology Institute and the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Institute), the Auxiliary Hospital of Suzano and the Hospital of Perdizes, which includes the future Alcohol and Drugs Institute.

FMUSP has one of the largest scientific medical research centers in the country, with 66 medical research laboratories (LIMs) and 230 research groups developing intellectual production in several areas.

The Faculty also works in partnership with the University Hospital (HU) and has the Butantã School Health Center as a health assistance and teaching unit, specialized in primary care.

It has more than a century of excellence in teaching and international recognition. In 2015, the Medical Winter Schools was implemented, a program that welcomes students from universities of different countries. The Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo continually seeks to develop and promote excellence in research and education.
