4.0 GPA rejected from SDSU

So disappointed. I live an hour from SDSU and it would’ve been the most convenient distance and price wise

I’m a psych major which I know is impacted but I saw people with 3.0 GPAs get in ??? I got the best possible grades and am getting an associates for transfer. I based a lot of the classes I’m taking this semester so I could do their stupid requirements leaving my UC requirements in the dust just for these fucks to reject me. AND THEY DONT EVEN GIVE A REASON OR EMAIL ME. the portal just says sorry youre rejected.

FUCK SDSU OMFG NOW I FEEL COOKED FOR EVERY OTHER BETTER SCHOOL IM WAITING ONNN

lol i had a 4.0 got rejected from SDSU and UCSB but go into Berkeley, UCLA and every other school i applied to🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Dang that’s amazing ! Manifesting this 🙏

They do this because they know you won't go to their school with a GPA like that. It's a safety net for them to not over accept students.

oh im cooked. I thought the csus were safeties for 4.0s

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Girl 😭 I mean some of them yeah but SDSU and Cal Poly SLO were not my safeties more like targets. Now I’m scared for my reaches (UCLA, UCSD)

u/Trainer_NoName avatar

Don’t go to UCSD. It was the most depressing school ever. 80% of the school walked around with their heads down and wouldn’t talk. The dorms mostly look like prison cells. If you want to socialize even a little that isn’t the school for you

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Lmaoo ok thanks 😭 no parties at all at that school ?? Clubs ??

u/KingKetchup1 avatar

They call it uc socially dead. I had some friends go there, the school i guess is indeed dead but obviously everyone has friends still. And they make friends there. Just no real party scene i guess

I hope this helps. Applied to all CSUs and 4 UCs not great with GPA. Nothing compared to y’all. But I have good chunk of experience in my field, for Aerospace Engineering. CSUF, Sac State, CSULA, CSUN, SFSU were my backups for MechE = Acceptances from all. CSULB, SJSU, SDSU for Aerospace Engineering = Acceptances from all. Cal poly Pomona was accepted for my alternative major: Electro-Mechanical Systems Tech. Waiting now on the UCs Wa

I don’t think it’s only GPA they look at. Now I have some hope for UCs: UCLA, UCSD, UCI, UCD🤩🤞🙏

i have a 3.5 and i got waitlisted. i’m wondering if they’re just protecting their yield rate or something. (i’m a bio major)

u/toothlessfire avatar

100% this is it. They know the 4.0s will get in elsewhere, so they're just trying to make their numbers look better.

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Right this is what I’m thinking too ?

SDSU is not a UC?

More replies

huh how tf u get rejected from sdsu with a 4.0? must be yield protection or something.

It’s all about the major

More replies

It’s definitely the major! I got in as an Anthropology transfer.

If you have a 4.0, most CSUs also assume you applied to UCs and redirect you to protect their own yield

Edit: More sentences

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Congrats 🍾 And yeah probably but imagine they redirect me then the UCs reject me too 😀

I doubt it lol especially as a transfer student. Have some hope!

If it’s an UC school, they’ll accept you if you’re a non-Asian minority.

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

We’re talking about CSUs rn, but I also applied to UCs which I thought were race blind? Anyways I’m mixed , white and Hispanic (Mexican). Not sure where that puts me I don’t think it’s an advantage or disadvantage

Technically, there’s no affirmative action in California. But it’s happening. Don’t forget, UC schools are state schools. California is all about diversity and equality for certain groups of minorities. I hope you marked Hispanic or Mexican on your application.

It feels like there's something missing from this post. Nonetheless, you'll be fine.

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Thanks Wdym something missing , like what ?

u/swagnasty11 avatar

I think he means like some red flag on your application, which can get you rejected no matter how good your stats are.

That being said, more than likely you were just yield protected

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Ik im wondering what red flags are there so I can see if mine had one But I agree that my application didn’t have one or I wouldn’t have been accepted to other CSUs and Cal Polys

u/brendinithegenie avatar

Given that the SDSU application basically ONLY asks for grades, there wouldn’t be any red flags if OP applied with a 4.0 🤷‍♀️

u/nyquios avatar

I got rejected from SDSU and Cal Poly SLO (those cal states were the only cal states I applied to) but got into all UCs. You should be fine

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Yay ok thanks ! What school are you at currently?

u/nyquios avatar

Np! I graduated from UCSD last year.

u/Fuzzy_Mind_1412 avatar

What was your major?

u/nyquios avatar

Electrical Engineering

u/Warguy387 avatar

not a transfer but if you remember, which was harder, ece109 or ece45, trynna decide classes rn lol

u/nyquios avatar

I thought ece45 was harder. I did well in ece109 but not as good in ece45 lol. I had Zeger for both classes

i remember watching this guy on youtube who was recording his decisions from ccc to the UC's, USC, SDSU, and literal Ivy's. I don't remember his exact stats (pretty sure he had like a 4.0 and got scholarships for it) and he got accepted into most schools like Berkeley and an ivy, waitlisted at one, and rejected from sdsu, his only 'safety'.

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Lmaoo so I guess this is a pattern for them

u/Glad-Satisfaction386 avatar

probs! don't lose hope. like others said, it's probs because you have stats that usually are used for the UC's and they want to give spots to people who would consider sdsu a dream/top choice.

It’s cause of you’re major, psych major is so popular they just might not have space for it anymore

u/Bluegeml avatar

Ur probably overqualified

has to be yield protection, there’s no way 😭

I got in with a 3.35 bus - finance

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Congrats 👏

More replies

prob yield protection as the school thinks you're gonna probably get into a harder school, so they reject you

No it’s prob the major

Too impacted

More replies

They probably rejected you because with your high GPA, there is a good chance you might've gotten in somewhere else that was a better school and therefore wouldn't have went to SDSU

u/Top_Post5628 avatar

Sdsu doesn’t have the best CS program so maybe it’s for the better but I’m still sorry to hear that. I’m sure the appeal will go through

u/Dry_Investigator_193 avatar

The way they released admissions was very crushing. All admits on one day first, waitlists another day, then finally rejections. Once people caught the pattern we all knew our fate

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

This ! It’s messed up 😭

More replies

tbh i don’t even think sdsu goes for the best gpa

u/Overall-Champion2511 avatar

They denied you because your overqualified

u/Sure_Sun_303 avatar

I think it’s probably because you’re just overqualified fr, manifesting you getting into Cal and UCLA tho

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

TYYY manifest UCLA I didn’t apply to Cal 😩♥️

More replies

got rejected to state, got into ucsd and cal poly slo . praying for you

u/VisibleYogurtcloset6 avatar

Did you complete the golden 4?

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Idr exactly what it is but yes I’m probably 100% sure I did. Took AP English in highschool and got a 4 for the score, took another English class in college (critical thinking), took statistics in college, and honestly don’t remember what the last one was ?? I’ve done several different science classes in college, lots of psych, some biology, earth science/geography, physiology. I took 2 years of Spanish in high school. Lmk what’s the 4th one lol I probably got it tho or I would’ve been rejected from the other CSUs

u/WeeklyExtension3413 avatar

Does it really have an effect ? 😭 I thought they were race blind. I’m white and Mexican/hispanic

u/Starmee avatar

Hi! You’re probably rejected due to yield protection - no one seems to want to talk about the truth of that. I got accepted to SDSU with a 3.4 GPA in Computer Engineering. I ended up going to UCSC. You’ll get accepted to great schools don’t worry about it. What other ones are you aiming for?

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Nice , thanks ! From here now I’m waiting on UCLA UCSD and UCI

More replies
u/Dry_Investigator_193 avatar

I got rejected too for business admin - accounting. Turns out I missed a prerequisite which was a CS class so I’m more than fine not getting in 💀

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

I might’ve missed a prereq too tbh I know I missed one but my CC didn’t have it and it was only a 1 unit class so that would suck for it to be bc of that

I’m a CC student

“Hello, we do not accept your offer to give us $100k+ for 4+ years of “education” That will get you a job that AI will take over in 3 years anyway. Thanks for applying!”

You do NOT need college in 2024. You can learn an entire semester’s worth of material in a 10 minute YouTube video, and be better than your competition simply because you have more time to practice the skills instead of regurgitating powerpoint slides into a test.

When people figure this out, colleges will crumble, they are already starting to now.

A good college course taught by someone who knows the material well, is passionate about it, and knows how to manage a classroom is simply not something you can replace with an online video. There is real value in that type of thing and it’s unfortunate you’ve never experienced it.

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Great for you ! I don’t think I could learn a semesters worth of info in 10 min and have it committed to memory. I also think college has interpersonal learning , learning how to communicate with others , critical thinking , time management , etc. and I won’t know what exactly I need to research on my own. College helps direct my learning. I agree it shouldn’t be 100k of course lol Curious to what your career plan is

I make passive income from my fortnite maps. I don’t work much besides occasional 5 hours per week

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

And that’s sustainable enough to be your entire career ? Wow

More than enough 😄

Wtf that’s crazy. I would’ve imagined transferring to SDSU with a 4.0 was a guarantee.

Are you applying from a california community college? For reference: I transferred from San Diego Mesa College (a california community college) to UCLA with a 4.0, also did TAP.

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Yes a California CC but it’s in San Marcos and I live in very northern SD county. That’s great I also applied to UCLA I have a 4.0 hopefully I follow in your footsteps !

You got this!!! Rooting for you.

I remember back in 2012 I got rejected from SDSU but got into every UC and cal poly 😂

u/kwontom avatar

I got rejected by SDSU, Cal Poly SLO, and CSUN, but got into Berkeley, UCLA, USC, UCSD, and UCSB.

Apparently some schools reject the students that they think would most likely choose a different/more competitive school.

Essentially, they might think you’re overqualified and that you wouldn’t say yes, so they gave one of their limited spots to the other people instead of you.

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Wow that’s crazy I’d feel so scared getting rejected from all of those then waiting on the UCs. Congrats on all of that ! Where do you go now ?

u/kwontom avatar
Edited

I chose UC Berkeley and got my BA in Physics in 2022 (=

ETA: Yeah getting the rejection letters made me give up on my hopes of getting into the other schools. So when they were all acceptances, I was like NO WAY

Relax. You can apply in spring semester. Much less people applying.

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Eh it’s fine it’s just one rejection. I spent like 200$ applying to schools for fall so I’m just gonna stick with that

More replies

maybe something about your coursework was off or misrepresented? i’ve heard of people trying to transfer places and getting rejected but then writing back to the schools only for the school to tell them that it only had to do with a simple mistake/edit in how their previous coursework was written? seeing as you had a 4.0 and keeping track of transfer coursework can be confusing it may be possible that something like this happened. maybe look into it and give it a shot? sorry this isn’t super helpful but might get you pointed in the right direction or potential next step?

u/Fair-Ad-7258 avatar

I read the cal state school are harder to get in to more applications than UC schools because tuition is about 1/2 of the UC schools.

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Hmm well most UCs get way more applications still and are generally harder to get into but there are some exceptions

More replies
u/Esti-engi avatar

Lol! You’re a psych major, don’t cry. Just wait until get your bA, good luck find a good paying job after you graduate.

u/Sad_Age_7185 avatar

nah there might’ve been something else, they only look at your gpa so 4.0 is pretty much guaranteed to get in. You probably were missing some classes.

I’m a veteran with a 3.8 gpa and also got rejected. This is my first time hearing about the yield protection so hopefully I’ll get into another one of my top schools.

lmao a transferred to CSUN as a music major with a 2.8

Probably overqualified then. Try appealing.

They rejected you for being too smart. Simply put some state schools say no to applicants who they fear are only applying to them as a safety.

I tried UC Berkeley with a 3.4 average and was not accepted. At the time they were being very selective with students. However, this was during 1987. A much different California culture back then. I got accepted to SJSU and CSU Hayward/East Bay. I only did one semester a piece before enlisting in the Navy. I lucked out with the GI Bill to finance my education in Columbia Southern University.

u/Rough_Lengthiness_33 avatar

I remember getting rejected from sdsu but accepted to ucla ? Probably overqualified

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

I hope this is mee. What’s your major and are u currently at UCLA? What do u think made you get in?

u/Rough_Lengthiness_33 avatar

I’m a psych major :) & I just got graduated last year ! & I really think my personal statements had a big impact

u/Rough_Lengthiness_33 avatar

I was also a transfer student ! & my gpa was a 3.7

The yield protect is honestly stupid. Like I get the idea behind it but I wanted to transfer to a csu where I could easily commute but I was rejected while some of my friends with lower gpa’s got in for the same major. I graduated 2 years ago and it all worked out but I remember being absolutely frightened when I was rejected by CSU’s which were the only schools I applied to with a 3.7 gpa.

u/Imjustababiokay avatar

Yeahh exactly
