My experience so far at San Jose State has been good. There is a lot of diversity here. There are many food options to choose from. The sudents here are very friendly. The clubs are very active.
I feel that San Jose State has great professors and great students and community. I would say that San Jose State struggles with location. I would say this because we are in the heart of downtown so it can be a bit dangerous for many students especially women. There is a huge homeless and crime population that seems to always cause trouble.
I’m a freshman at San Jose State University who is currently living on-campus. I would only recommend it if you have the funds for it. Overall, it’s nice living on-campus since there’s posters hanging at the board. Allowing you to become involved with the small events on campus which, I personally think are fun. I would also go on their social media for more entertaining events. Academic wise, you would most likely get help from your advisor but I advise you to look at the time, date, and professor’s rating so you can relax. Since every event that was going on, I would have class. Job and internship opportunities are important because you want to have great work experience after college. There’s plenty of events for job opportunities that the Career Center will provide for students who are interested. They will help you with things to get ready for a job and internship. There isn’t as much I would ask to change but to put out more speed friend dating and on-site jobs.
As a student at San Jose State University, my experience has been a mixed bag. Academically, it’s been tough. Some professors are great—they’re passionate and genuinely care about their students’ success. But others are hard to follow, with confusing lectures and little support outside of class. I’ve often found myself struggling to keep up, even when putting in the effort.
On top of that, the social scene here feels almost non-existent. It’s mostly a commuter school, so a lot of people leave right after class. Campus events are few and far between, and it’s difficult to meet new people unless you're already involved in a club or organization. If you're looking for a vibrant social life, you might find yourself disappointed.

So far, I've really enjoyed my time here at SJSU. It've a very diverse community and everyone is, for the most part, respectful and kind. A few things I would change is the parking. Since it is mainly a commuter school, I believe we should have better parking. Students have to get to the parking garages hours before their classes even start. Also, I would fix how some buildings do not have air conditioning or heaters, for example, our auditorium holds lectures of over 300 students, and it's usually uncomfortably warm in there.
Public library has lots of issues with homeless individuals using it as a safe haven for illicit and illegal activities, one recomendation or chang that could help make the School Feel safer, would be for us to make the lIbrary Private, it is geared towards the students, but it is not a Safe Enviorment for us.
I like going on the campus because it's very diverse and I love hanging out with my friends in the student union. it feels like I belong there. I am scared of parking lots by myself because of homeless people. so I prefer walking to the parking with other people.
My experience as a San Jose State University transfer student has been great. So far, each of my professors has been great and provided me with resources that have made it so I don't have to struggle alone. Something memorable during my first week of school was walking through the center of campus and being welcomed by my peers. This small gesture is the overall atmosphere at SJSU; you feel welcomed. Also, SJSU is at the center of the city, so if you are interested in city life/vibe, this university is worth considering. I would like to see a change in the number of unsheltered people around the campus because it makes me uneasy. Every campus is flawed, but SJSU is an excellent place to attend.
So far, San Jose State University has treated me very kindly concerning my education. I have been able to be a full-time student while allowing me to pursue other avenues in life. For example, I can attend school and spend time with my family.
Moving to San Jose from a different state was an overall change but I have really appreciated my experience at SJSU. When I transferred there, the advisors immediately gave me a game plan and courses to follow for me to be on track for graduation. That helped me very much to see what is required and to have accesses to this information at all times. The professors are not too challenging with their assignments because their goal is for everyone to learn and pass. I’m not the biggest fan of the area for safety reasons, I have had some bad encounters with transients. Night life was fun when I would go out here and there but coming from a different state that is known for night life, San Jose isn’t that great in that department. Overall I have had pleasant experiences at this college and I recommend this school to anymore considering.
San Jose State University offers a vibrant and enriching experience characterized by a dynamic campus life, strong industry connections, and supportive faculty. Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, SJSU provides students with abundant opportunities for internships and professional networking, particularly in fields like engineering and business. The university is known for its diverse academic programs and modern facilities, including the extensive Martin Luther King Jr. Library. Students benefit from engaging in community service and various cultural events that enhance their educational journey and foster a sense of social responsibility. Overall, SJSU’s blend of academic excellence, industry relevance, and a lively campus atmosphere makes it a rewarding and memorable place for many students.
I like the campus, I mean it’s in center, beautiful and huge. But outside the campus the area have a lot of people who are homeless. The atmosphere is great but the school is expensive. The professors are okay, they help but you have to work on youre own
I'm currently a first year at San Jose State University and I've really enjoyed exploring this campus and the academics. A huge problem, especially as a commuter student, is the parking. The parking permit is almost $400+ for two semesters and with the costs of textbooks, gas, and the tuition itself, it's a shocking price since we aren't guaranteed that parking. Our tuition has increased, but the extra cost isn't being used to renovate or help students in any particular way. With the complications of FAFSA this year, it's extremely hard to pay for university and it doesn't feel like SJSU is doing a lot to help. I've met with the financial aid office and they recommended taking out a loan, but I would have liked for them to provide more options. The professors I have are kind and helpful till then so I'm happy about that! However, there needs to be some type of reduction of price or aid to help students continue our four year education with less debt.
In San Jose State I feel welcome everywhere I step foot in. The teachers are very nice and carrying they will take time to make sure you understand that just makes me wanna learn more and keep going. Everyone there is very helped they are all nice and very easy to make friends
It’s been nice I want to be in clubs but I live and commute to school and it’s costly but I’m trying to find housing nearby.
Lots of opportunities to find yourself, but it does depend on your schedule and availability. A lot of it is luck based of who you encounter who happens to know someone else.
My experience at San José State University was excellent. Being a local, staying close to home was a great choice. The university’s downtown location is convenient, with everything nearby, minimizing commutes. The quality of education was impressive; my Biology professors were exceptional, passionate, and supportive, always ready to help. Campus life is good but could be better. Recent additions like the new gym and pool have improved it. The library is beautiful and spacious, perfect for studying, but improvements are needed. Creating more student gathering spaces beyond the quad, restricting library access for non-students, increasing funding for Duncan Hall's lab rooms, and expanding parking would enhance the experience. Despite these areas for improvement, my overall time at SJSU was outstanding, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
