Yale Pulls Away from UAlbany to Win Seventh Straight

Bulldogs outscore Great Danes 11-4 in second half

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A dominant second half earned the Yale men's lacrosse team its seventh straight victory. Three Bulldogs tallied hat tricks as Yale outscored UAlbany 11-4 in the second half on its way to a 17-10 win on a chilly night at Reese Stadium.

The Bulldogs improved to 11-2 overall with the victory, while the Great Danes fell to 5-7.

STATISTICAL LEADERS

Matt Brandau, Johnny Keib and Carson Kuhl all scored three goals to lead a balanced Yale attack. Brandau added five assists. Thomas Bragg and Max Krevsky both scored twice, while David Anderson, Logan Soelberg, Jack Stuzin and Cole Cashion each had one goal apiece.

Yale again split the goaltending duties. Jared Paquette played the first two quarters and made four saves, while Hugh Conrad stopped seven shots over the final 30 minutes.

TURNING POINT

Midway through the third quarter, Yale was in front by just one, 10-9, but scored the next six goals to seize control. The Bulldogs tallied the final three goals of the third and the first three of the fourth. Kuhl and Keib both scored two goals during the run.

KEY STAT

Yale's defense forced UAlbany into 18 turnovers. Patrick Pisano led the way with three caused turnovers. In addition to his goal, Jack Stuzin had three ground balls and a caused turnover.

BULLDOGS SURVIVE BUSY STRETCH

Yale was playing its fifth game in 13 days, and the Bulldogs won all five.

"We did it for a reason," said Andy Shay, The Forst Family Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "We wanted to see if we could play games on short rest, and I'm very pleased with the result."

MORE SHAY

"I'm really proud of the guys. We played a detailed and focused game, and we knew we were going to need to do that," Shay said. "We won more faceoffs and had the ball more in the second half. We thought if we had it more, we'd be able to capitalize."

NOTES

• The seven-game streak is Yale's longest since early in the 2018 NCAA championship season.

• Brandau continues to close in on the Ivy League's all-time goal scoring and points records. His 195 career goals are the second most in Ivy history, trailing only Brown's Dylan Molloy (197), and his 353 career points are also second in league history. Cornell's Rob Pannell (354) is the all-time leader.

• Anderson now has at least one point in all 13 games this season. He has scored at least one goal in 12 of the 13 games.

• Kuhl also has at least one point in all 13 games and has scored at least one goal in 12 of the 13 games.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season by hosting Princeton next Saturday at noon at Reese Stadium. A win would guarantee Yale at least a share of the Ivy League title.
