WWE will make its non-fungible token (NFT) debut today, April 10, with one of its most iconic characters in The Undertaker.

Auctions open today at 10:30 am EST on WWE.com/NFT, in conjunction with Bitski, as The Deadman will be featured as part of a four-tier drop showcasing iconic moments and never-before-sold merchandise ahead of WWE’s biggest show of the year at WrestleMania 37. The drop will conclude on April 11 at 11:30 pm EST.

Tiers include Bronze, Silver (1 of 37), Gold (1 of 1) and Platinum (1 of 1). The highest bidder for the platinum tier (which boasts an opening bid of $10,000) will receive two front-row tickets to either WrestleMania 38 in Arlington, Texas or WrestleMania 39 in Inglewood, Calif. The winning bidder will also receive a personalized message from The Undertaker.

A preview of the Platinum-tier NFT assets features a still of The Undertaker throwing Mick Foley from atop Hell in a Cell during their instantly classic match at King of the Ring 1998.

The Undertaker officially retired as part of an empty-arena ceremony at Survivor Series 2020. The swan song came on the heels of the well-received Last Ride documentary where Undertaker appeared very conflicted regarding whether or not he was going to call it a career.

Undertaker will now claim the unique distinction as the first-ever WWE Superstar featured in an NFT drop as excitement around the new-age blockchain continues to grow.

“WWE’s first-ever NFT collection presents an opportunity to own a digital piece of history featuring The Undertaker, one of the most iconic Superstars in sports entertainment,” said Nick Khan, WWE President & Chief Revenue Officer, in a press release.

“This will also allow WWE to deepen our connection with the WWE Universe during our biggest event, WrestleMania.”

Triple H echoed these sentiments, telling Jeremy Lambert of Fightful that NFTs will become yet another strategy the promotion plans to use to monetize its very lucrative history.

“Those are things, as technology changes and those opportunities become available, it's always things that we're looking at.” said Triple H.

“Vince [McMahon] has a big philosophy of not wanting to be the first person to jump into the pool, but you also don't want to be the last. That's where we are and we look at all the options. In some ways, we're tailor-made for [NFT] rather than some random dunk in the NBA. Our moments are iconic. It's what we do, we create iconic moments that live forever.”

With WWE getting in on the ground floor of NFT, this could be a yet another potentially potent revenue stream for the promotion, which recently struck up a billion-dollar deal with NBCUniversal to air the WWE Network exclusively on Peacock.
