Editorial Reviews
Nick Mason is one of the biggest selling artists of all time. A co-founding member of Pink Floyd, he is the only constant member of the group, performing on all of their albums as well as all of their live shows. In May of this year, Nick debuted his new band Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets with four intimate shows in London (Camden Dingwalls 20 May and The Half Moon in Putney 21, 23 and 24 May) to an incredible reception. --Unattended Luggage is a further celebration of Nick Mason and his undeniably significant contribution to music. The set contains; --‘Fictitious Sports’ - Nick’s debut solo album which was originally released in 1981 and saw him collaborate with a variety of different musicians including Robert Wyatt and Carla Bley. --‘Profiles’ - A collaboration with 10cc guitarist Rick Fenn, it was Nick’s second album outside of Pink Floyd and was released in 1985 as ‘Mason + Fenn’. This is a mainly instrumental album except for tracks ‘Lie for a Lie’, which features vocals from Maggie Reilly and former bandmate David Gilmour and ‘Israel’, sung by UFO keyboardist Danny Peyronel. --‘White of the Eye’ - A soundtrack for a British thriller movie of the same name, Nick once again collaborated with Rick Fenn. Originally released in 1987, in conjunction with the film's release, this is the first time the record has been made available for over 20 years, and the first time it will appear on CD. --Nick Mason says, "These recordings hold a very special place for me in my musical life. 'Fictitious Sports' developed initially from working with Mike Mantler, Carla Bley and Robert Wyatt on a couple of their projects, and benefited enormously from a whole crew of great musicians that I was introduced to by them at Grog Kill Studios in Woodstock. --“'Profiles' and 'White of the Eye' were an extension of working with Rick Fenn on some advertising and short documentary film soundtracks, which then developed into something more.

The collection is awesome! All the CDs sound great, and if you like slightly eclectic stuff, at least one of these CDs is for you!
Top reviews from other countries
First release: Fictitious sports from 1981;sees Nick in upbeat and relaxed mood.opening track:Can't get my motor to start is both quirky and jaunty, and gives a nod to his passion for all things motor vehicle related.proceeding comedian: Alexis Sayles' novelty hit - Hello John gotta new motor - by a good two and a half years.listening in and taking notes Alexis?
Robert Wyatt contributes his eccentric, estuary style lead vocals on several tracks.the UFO themed: I was wrong, oriental tinged - Siam,Werving and the experimental closing track: I'm a mineralist - with its false endings.a wonderful end to a very good album.
Second release:Profiles (1985);is jointly credited to Mason + Fenn - he the guitarist of 10cc.
This is a mainly instrumental album and features some outstanding guitar playing from Fenn and drumming by our co-star (sic).
Malta: is an outstanding opening track, and lie for a lie, features lead vocals from David Gilmour - No less, with backing by Maggie Riley (Moonlight shadow? that's correct).
Israel - sees UFO keyboard player - Dan Peyronel take lead vocals - in the spirit of prog rock tradition.
With legendary sax player Mel Collins contributing to three tracks, things surely can't get any better - a truly excellent album!
Last up - Release no three: White of the eye; sound track to the British thriller of the same name - first released in 1987.
Again - another collaboration with Rick Fenn and duly credited.
This is an entirely instrumental offering and features some very infectious, moody and atmospheric music.recording information on this release,is very sparse - only track listing and precious little else.
Country music, western themes - and jazz on 'Dry junk' are abundant on this disc.
I've never seen, let alone heard of the film - but I'm sure the sound track music is very appropriate.
All albums are original sounding and only remotely Pink floyd influenced.only a good thing - surely.missing the point somewhat to say otherwise!
To conclude: i rate Fictitious sports; four stars,Profiles five stars and White of the eye 3 to 3.5 stars.overall rating: a convincing 4 stars.
N.B.presented in vinyl replica style sleeves and housed I a sturdy cardboard box, with lift-up lid.a further addition of a booklet containing lyrics, essay and previously unreleased photos - would have been a nice addition.still....
Conclusion : 10/15, soit 3,5/5
