The Gettysburg Warriors Boys’ Lacrosse team entered Monday’s contest with their sights set on securing their second win of the season as they faced the 0 – 11 West York Bulldogs. While the rivalry has only been around for three seasons, the two squads have had historically physical encounters. The Bulldogs and Warriors filled the penalty sheet as the two squads combined for a season-high 15:30 in penalty minutes. Players limped from the field, bodies were bruised, a facemask was bent, and sticks broke as the two teams battled through the forty-eight minutes of the game. Ultimately, West York proved to have too much firepower as they prevailed 16 – 3.
The Bulldogs were led by an offensive onslaught by Tyler Michael, Colin Jones, and Anthony King, who scored five, four, and four goals, respectively. Jaydyn Wilkins, Aiden Coleman, and Kyan Moore rounded out the scoring with a goal each.
Offensively, the Warriors outshot the Bulldogs by three as they sent thirty-two shots towards the goal. Cole Schumacher sent two shots by Bulldogs’ netminder Griff Brumbaugh, and Gavin Nevada scored once for the visitors. Schumacher tied Jackson Sheads for the season-high thirteen strikes on the year, while Nevada improved to seven goals in his Freshman campaign. Sheads led the team with four ground balls as he had to dig them out of the high natural grass.
In net, Brumbaugh was credited with eleven saves while Gabe Wyant, fresh off the 400th save of his career, stopped eight shots.
For the Warriors, the highlight of the night may have been R J Monn’s clearing play, in which he “trucked” a Bulldog and toppled the opponent to the ground. Both the bench and crowd erupted on the play.
Sam Dickerson led the defense with one forced turnover, three ground balls, and a bent facemask from one of the hits. Christian DiCampli forced a turnover and vacuumed up two ground balls. Josh Martin and Lucas Ramsburg continue to anchor the defense with strong sticks and quick feet.
Eight different Warriors accumulated penalties as they filled the scorebook. Monn, Ramsburg, DiCampli, Wyant, Dickerson, Fin Keenan, Brennen Double, and Nate Rawlings all served infractions.
The Warriors hit the road again tomorrow at 6:30 PM as they face the Bishop McDevitt Crusaders.
