What travelers are saying
- Suzy BBedford, NH142 contributionsWe spent our first morning in Tucson at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and strongly recommend this approach to other first-time visitors. The mostly-outdoors exhibits represent the diversity of habitats that comprise the Sonoran Desert, with representative plants and animals along well-planned walking trails. We appreciated the knowledgeable docents who answered our questions and helped us interpret the exhibits along the trails. The museum was an excellent introduction to the desert environment ahead of our visit to Saguaro National Park and Sabino Canyon on the following days.Written April 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Suz1884Grants Pass, OR465 contributionsDefinitely worth the time to visit. Plan on at least an hour but better to spend two or more. Wear shoes for walking on gravel and sand. So many types of planes, lots from WW Ii but also from 1800's to today.Written April 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - John PSouth Deerfield, MA858 contributionsClose to Tucson and on our trip to Tombstone, we found a great scenic park. The 4 mile tram ride up the Sabino canyon over multiple water crossings was beautiful, and the weather was perfect. It would have been quite warm to do the hike in the afternoon. We saw some wonderful scenery and were narrated on the ride up. We spent an hour or so enjoying the perfect afternoon. Our National Park pass saved us the $8 parking, but not the $15 tram ride.Written April 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michael SNormal, IL28 contributionsA very scenic and educational drive. It was 96 when we began the drive and was 65 at the top. You will experience seeing cactus, rocky inclines, pinetrees and even snow. A great place to realize how beautiful our country is.....Written April 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Joan GBay Shore, NY17 contributionsA wonderful experience. Take the free “tour” which is given outside to maintain a quiet, spiritual space inside. The original mission was founded in 1767(?).Written April 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Suzy BBedford, NH142 contributionsBoth the East and the West districts of Saguaro National Park are equally impressive, albeit in different ways. The West district features denser saguaro forests. The East District features fewer but older (taller!) saguaros amid spectacular sweeping views. We feel fortunate that we were able to visit them both on different days of our trip.
We got an early start in the West district in order to hike the 0.9 mile Valley View trail before the heat of the day set in. This short hike was equally rewarding for both the immersion among cacti along the trail and the impressive view at the end. Not to mention that we saw many lizards! We also drove the entirety of the 5-mile Bajada Loop Drive (unpaved but perfectly fine for passenger vehicles), walked the 0.5 mile Desert Discovery Nature Trail and watched the movie at the Red Hills Visitor center. Don’t miss the movie. The Signal Hill petroglyph trail was closed due to road construction into the area - it’s on our list for next time.
Our primary activity in the East district was the 8-mile scenic Cactus Forest Drive. The Javelina Rocks pullout was a standout for the amazing views from rocks you could easily scramble to the top of. The ranger at the Rincon Mountain Visitor Center pointed us to the Javelina picnic area as the more scenic of the two in this district and it did not disappoint. Though it wasn’t a hiking kind of day for us, we’d be interested in the Cactus Forest Trail, Freeman Homestead Trail or loop trails in the Mica View picnic are another time.
Very informative hiking guide pamphlets are available at the respective visitor centers in each district.Written April 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The short walks transport the viewer through various Sonoran flora species in a well-labeled and organize way. Visiting in April was a treat as so many plants were in full bloom. There is much to see and learn, including sculptures, water features, and very nice facilities.
The park has a fine gift shop as well as a restaurant. We did not dine in but enjoyed the shade provided. There are docent lectures and other programs scheduled in a fine amphitheater. The admission price was reasonable for this remarkable little corner of the world that is not to be missed.Written April 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The trail was just the right length and difficulty for two novice hikers. The views at certain points are truly breathtaking.Written March 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GHillTravelerReno, NV115 contributionsThis was just good old-fashioned fun. We arrived an hour before the show, so we could get drinks and dinner before the show. Pizza, chicken strips, and hot dog were good; cocktails were very good. We ordered a Banana Split Extravaganza and 4 forks, which the server delivered at intermission. It was so tasty, and just the right size for the four of us. The show and the after-show were very fun, and good for all ages. We wished we had such an entertaining place as this in our town.Written March 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paula Kay22 contributionsWe just loved the beautiful gallery grounds, which reflect the art, soul and creativity of Ted De Grazia. There are small buildings and gardens to explore, a main gallery, even a chapel. Various art everywhere, all against the spectacular backdrop of the Santa Catalina Mountains. De Grazia was close to the Tohono O'Odham people, formerly called Papago, and his art reflects this connection. We left uplifted and inspired.Written March 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Joan GBay Shore, NY17 contributionsIf you are a mini enthusiast you MUST go. Our timing gave me only an hour- boo hoo. Plan on at least two hours. It is very well thought out museum where the minis are excellently displayed. There were two special exhibits when I was there- fascinating.
It’s a bit hard to find but persevere. There is a bench inside if not everyone wants to go in ( my husband).Written April 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Different types of gardens that thrive in the desert, butterfly house and a food truck to grab a snack if desired. Kept up well, most plants, trees identified.Written March 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
