Tucker Carlson, born in 1969 in San Francisco, California, is an American conservative pundit who hosted “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Fox News from 2016 to 2023 and had a significant impact on American Republican politics, including an influential relationship with former President Donald Trump.
Carlson’s show was the highest-rated cable news program in the 25 to 54 age demographic, although it faced a decline in ratings following his exit. While popular among viewers, his controversial comments on immigrants, the Black Lives Matter movement, and COVID-19 led some advertisers to sever ties with the program.
In terms of policy support, Carlson endorsed many of Trump’s positions such as the immigration ban from majority-Muslim countries, building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, and climate change denial.
In April 2023, Carlson left Fox News abruptly, less than a week after Fox Corp settled a $787.5 million lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems to avoid a defamation trial. The network offered no explanation for Carlson’s departure, although he had been expected to testify in the Dominion trial.
