How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

I have heard Irma Thomas all of my life but I never really listened to her. I even think that we attended the same High School at the same time. I have seen her live at small night clubs. Recently I listened to "Can You Hear It In My Tears" by Irma, on the radio. I was deeply moved and shocked to find out that it was an Irma Thomas song. I ordered the cd TRUE BELIEVER from Amazon and have enjoyed all of the songs. I am now an Irma Thomas fan. How life can change our viewpoint.

I first heard of Irma Thomas by looking through various recomendations for her style of music on the Amazon web site. It seemed like no one had anything but positive things to say about her so I picked up 'True Believer'. Now I'm making everyone I know listen to this CD. It, to me, is perfect in so many ways. Every song is enjoyable. Irma Thomas nails each one with a delivery that's never exaggerated, always pitch perfect, with an obvious respect and understanding of each song's lyrics and mood.
This CD has become an instant favorite. I love 'Smoke Filled Room' and 'Heart Full of Rain'.

Well, shoot. Irma Thomas' voice quality is so very rich, and can mesmerize; but I've got to say some of the time it's annoyingly "pitchy". I don't know if that's always true, but, it is on this recording ("True Believer"). That said, I put down the five-star rating because two of the cuts make it all VERY worthwhile. "Trying to Catch a Cab in the Rain" is a very odd song, and I can truly feel myself trying to keep it all together, soaking sopping wet, trying so hard to get to where I need to be. I can feel it. Thank you, Irma. The other, for me, was "Smoke Filled Room". Lord. She's been there. I've been there. I expect we've all been there. Those damn ol' tears..... so maybe the other cuts will grow on me, but that would simply be a bonus. The two I reference are well worth the album. Absolutely.
