Sting, Trudie Styler helping to raise money for lawyer Steven Donziger

Sting and Trudie Styler are joining a host of big names to raise legal defense funds for environmental lawyer Steven Donziger.

Donziger claims Chevron has been orchestrating a decade-long court battle against him ever since he won a multibillion-dollar judgment against the oil giant.

According to reports, the company sued Donziger for racketeering and corruption in 2011, and the case has rumbled on ever since.

He’s currently under house arrest and awaiting trial for contempt of court after refusing a request to hand over his cell phone and computer.

Now, bold-face names including Danny Glover and Nobel Peace Laureate Jody Williams are taking part in a virtual event on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. ET to help raise money for his legal costs.

Donziger, who has been fighting American oil companies for nearly three decades on behalf of indigenous communities and farmers in Ecuador, will be interviewed by Pulitzer-prize winning journalist Chris Hedges, we’re told.

Speaking in January, he said: “I’m like a corporate political prisoner … they’re trying to destroy me.”
