If you go with kids it would probably be better because you can go in and out of various modes of transportation and they will likely run around and enjoy it. If you are going for history, there is some, but it is a non-profit run by volunteers and the displays are not grand. I expected more. There is also a trolley ride, which again, is fun for kids and families. It goes about a mile or so. No tour guide though which makes it just a ride. Apparently some of the trolley drivers give you an oral tour but not all.

Great spot for kids and adults wanting a trip down memory lane. Trolley ride was very exciting for a 3 year old, even in the rain. Nice view of river and lighthouse.

Our cruise boat spent the better part of a day in Kingston, and I wanted to go to the Trolley Museum. The unfortunate part is that it is open only on holidays and weekends. I understand that is when more people can visit, but for one-day visitors to the area, it is not very convenient. I looked through the fencing and saw some intersting items; maybe I'll get there on a weekend sometime so I can go inside!

Hope you will come by some weekend. The museum is only on weekends as we run completely by volunteers. We are always looking for volunteers and maybe if we had more we can open other days.

great set of railroad and transit equipment that includes two General Motors Company buses. One is a Fishbowl, the other a RTS. Collection includes the only surviving PA1 car that survived 911.

Thank you for your response. Actually, there is another surviving PA car from 911 at the Shoreline Trolley Museum in Connecticut.

The Trolley Museum certainly tries to be informative and interesting but ultimately fails, the enthusiasm of the volunteers is the shining star and the main reason I rated the museum average instead of poor. The museum offers a short ride on a Trolley (Diesel Powered) that is approximately 15 minutes total, it goes to Kingston park along the river and is a decent ride but again very short, the worst part is fumes from the diesel engine are quite noxious and detract from the experience. The volunteer motorman gave some nice history about the railway and Trolleys in Kingston, also explaining they plan to electrify the line down the line and possibly expand the line, hopefully that does happen one day, but I would not hold my breath. Aside from the ride there a couple of train cars on display and a small museum, the combined experience is sad looking, the museum is small and does not have anything of interest other than some old photos and postcards of Kingston, the trains on display are subway cars from NYC MTA, PATH and from Boston, they are fine but only two were open and we did not spend a lot of time in them. I have mixed feelings about giving the museum a review which is more negative tinged, as the volunteers are well meaning and kids seem to enjoy it. Maybe one day the museum might be better when and if they expand, but I will not be returning anytime soon.

This place may be small but the information in the museum was very interesting and the trolley ride fun. Everyone who volunteers here is very knowledgeable, including the very helpful young man we encountered who followed us around and told us a lot about, well everything. We got to see a train car cars from all around the world in the workshop since someone was working in there and invited us in. They have a nice NYC train car that was retired in the 70's you can board and a train car that was damaged in the 9-11 disaster. The trolley ride was not long, but very enjoyable and parts are along the waters edge.

I was visiting another museum along Kingston's waterfront when I heard that the trolley was running. I went to the museum and fond out the scoop. At noon sharp the diesel powered trolley departed the barn and ambled along its one hour route. It is a good way to see some odd things and enjoy an hour away from the somnlent madness of Kingston's busy riverfront strip.

I visited the Kingston Trolley Museum this past weekend and I had a nice time. The museum houses several trolleys in various stages of restoration and includes a few form Europe. They also have a NYC subway car. The museum is on the smaller side and is geared more toward people with some interest in transit and local history. For me the highlight of the trip was the scenic trolley ride from the museum to Kingston Point Park, which is short but fun. The trolleys are kept in the restoration shop on the lower level of the building, and outside the building. The restoration shop was a bit dark and messy. It should really be cleaned up to make it more presentable to visitors. The upper level of the museum's building houses the gift shop, restroom, historic photos, a San Francisco trolley bell and some other small exhibits. Of note is the collection of glass insulators. I do wish there was more to see and hope they continue adding to their collection. A sign indicating the entrance to the museum would be helpful. Just down the street is the Hudson River Maritime Museum and the rest of the Rondout Historic District.

Small museum in the Rondout area near the Maritime Museum. Have several restored trolley cars outside and several more in their workshop in various stages of restoration. Have a PATH train car and police car damaged in 9-11 attack which they are planning to use in a new exhibit. Best of all, your admission ticket includes a short ride on a restored trolley car from Rondout to Kingston Point. It was raining the day I was there, so didn't get off to explore Kingston Point. Very worthwhile.

It was a beautiful Friday afternoon in Kingston, saw the Trolley Museum and stopped. Ready to spend $$ but it was locked up. Sign said they're only open 10 hours on the weekend. How can this be considered a tourist attraction?

The Trolley Museum is run completely by volunteers that is why it is only open on weekends as most people are off on weekends from their paying jobs. The Museum is always looking for volunteers.
