- CBonn57Quispamsis, Canada277 contributionsLeisurely walk around the river. Cool day but pleasant for walking and only a handful of people walking . Grounds are beautiful and I image in the summer it is a very busy spot. Glad I got to enjoy in March.Written March 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Chas85 contributionsIt has been 4 years since I since I did a review for this local live theater. Everyone involved from the performers to the the stagehands and ushers are unpaid volunteers but the productions are very far from amateur. We have been ardent live theater goers for many years. Out of deference to my lovely wife I won't say for how many years. But I can tell you that we became hooked when we went to see Camelot on Broadway to celebrate our engagement. We currently see at least 5 to 7 shows (mostly musicals) at different venues each year. With The Theatre of The Republic being only one not engaging paid professionals. Over the years we have seen at least 55 shows here. Some have been better than others but all with one or two exceptions were thoroughly enjoyable. Last evening we were lucky enough to see Jersey Boys during its short run. It was outstanding! Each and very performer had an excellent singing voice and gave a masterful performance. We had seen this show 5 years ago at a regional theater with professional paid performers. I can honestly say that last night's performance was equally as good as that one. This was due entirely to the outstanding performances given by the entire cast. As a result I could not justify singling out anyone in particular, but must offer kudos to all. Since all the remaining performances are sold out, you won't be able to get tickets unless the run is extended. But don't despair. There will be other opportunities to see just how wonderfully entertaining this "amateur theater" can be as a result of all the talented people in this area.Written March 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - WCU1Fairfax, VA96 contributionsFirst off, if you enter the address into google maps, it will take you to the back of the building not the front of the building.
Museum is a hidden gem though. Free but donations accepted.
Plenty of parking. Plenty of rooms and overall gives a general great history of the county pronounced Orry not Horry.
Wildlife, dolls, Myrtle Beach history, Waccamaw, rice, tobacco, previous wars in our nations history, solider stories and relics.

We also thought the variety of books for children and adults on historic themes was excellent. Be sure to watch the videos before walking outside to learn about the various farm buildings and crops. We were lucky to talk with the farm's Agriculturalist. He showed us how they are tanning hides. This farm also has animals: chickens, mules and a bull. The farm experience would be great for families. It is free to the public.Written February 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - stephanier76Myrtle Beach, SC216 contributionsWhile searching for Apple picking locations I came across Thompson Farm and we decided to check it out. They have a great corn maze, lots of things set up for kids to play on, a HUGE slide , bounce pads, goat petting , animal feeding a hay ride. We spent a few hours just going all over the area and were exhausted, sun kissed and totally happy from the time outside on the farm :) great job even dealing w Covid restrictionsWritten September 20, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - vincent pEaston, PA83 contributionsAnother way to access the Waccamaw River, is to go to the very end of
Jackson Bluff Road. You go by Carolina University, then the sewage plant, ignore the sign for the State park. Keep following Jackson Bluff Road until you reach the river access. When you enter the river you can go left for one and a half miles to see the submerged mystery train. Look for the wheels.Written October 16, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is fairly extensive and quite a range of past era finds - mostly mid 20th century items. Fun to find that special something. The staff there is very helpful.
