About
The Tribeca Film Festival celebrated its decade-long anniversary in 2012. The brainchild of Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff, it brings an array of international and indie films to New York's silver screens, often by young and emerging filmmakers. Now a New York staple, the festival receives over 10,000 submissions and screens over 1,500 films, which compete for awards in categories ranging from 'best narrative feature' to 'best actor/actress in a narrative feature'. The lineup includes, alongside the usual dramas and coming-of-age tales, documentaries, shorts, and family films. Running across the better half of the month, the Festival also brings together insiders for panels, discussions, and showcases. Over three million people attend the festival's screenings.

Tribeca festival pretends to be open and accessible with fans but it's just not true. At least not anymore. They act like elitists and fans are just little peons to them, not worth any time or effort. I did not have a great experience at the festival and it felt like being a fan of RD was this huge no-no. i've had friends who have worked there who have said the same. MOST come to the festival because of RD!?

Before I went to the festival this year, I didn't get a response with a few simple questions. I emailed again and the person who answered a week later seemed annoyed. Won't be going again

It’s been a dream of mine for a while to attend the Tribeca Film Festival, and I’m so happy I finally got the chance to attend a film screening! With the COVID pandemic, the event was held outdoors and audience members were seated in pods. The best thing about Tribeca is that we got to hear the film directors share their vision before the film and all the work they put into telling their story.

I just returned from NYC where we attended 2 events featured during the TriBeCa film festival. This is a huge event, with events scheduled over the course of 2 weeks and a few hundred films shown at a variety of theaters. There are also panel discussions involving actors, producers, musicians. You can buy individual passes (which is what we did) or passes for the full event. We attended a talk with John Oliver and Tom Hanks which was awesome and chose a documentary to attend which was also awesome. There was also a street fair which was ok....mainly for kids and families. I'd definitely recommend the event.

A few years ago we attended the Tribeca Film Festival and were blown away by the access to people in the film industry. Every film we saw had the performers answer questions about the process and their role in it. The stars were friendly, willing to converse and let the audience into their take on the film. ALL THAT HAS CHANGED! If you plan ahead and buy a ticket there is a good chance you will get a second rate seat. The films are not of the caliber that they previously were. We sat through a horrendous first effort of a film director who showed glimmers of talent, but really needs some experience under his belt before he is ready for the big time. For this we paid $24 each. In another film where we were promised a Q & A the main actor and directer (one in the same) came out before the film and told us he really didn't want to be there but this was a contractual obligation. When the film was over, it was over....no Q&A. For this we paid $30 apiece. It was a better film and would have been nice to have learned more about the main character. Since the "RUSH" ticket holders generally got better seats we tried to get two for another film. First the staff forgot to put up signs for two different features and we waited in the wrong line. (Signs of where to go were constantly put out late or not at all.) We waited for an hour for RUSH tickets only to have an announcement that there would be none. While I understand that they were out of seats, it would have been nicer if that announcement had come a half hour sooner when promised. If this festival is meant to promote the Indie film industry, it very badly misses the mark. I know my husband and I will never attend again.

We have attended the TFF in the past (some of our friends were in a featured documentary) and had a great experience. This time American University invited alumni to meet for drinks and then attend "Tribeca Talks with Robert DeNiro and Bradley Cooper" April 21, 2018. We all had tickets.

We were in line for about 45 minutes. The opening time 6:00pm, came and went. We waited for another 10 minutes. Then we were told that the house was full. There were at least 75 ticket holders that did not get in. Many traveled over an hour to NYC for the event. We were told that "too many badges were given out". I imagine this means that too many internal people gave free passes to their friends.

American University reimbursed us, but hat is not the point.. It is the time, the disappointment, and the scandalous lack of professionalism from a venerable festival. People coming into town should know that TFF is a very iffy proposition, even if you have tickets.

This was my first time to attend a film festival and it was a wonderful experience. My friends and I are already planning our return trip for 2018. It was fun to be able to preview some of the movies and documentaries before they were released. This is a real unique experience.
