With a line-up featuring legendary artists Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, and Tom Petty, the Traveling Wilburys
were a one-of-a-kind musical phenomenon. The all-star configuration came about when they convened at a Southern California
studio in 1988 to record a b-side for a Harrison s single. They had such a rockin good time cutting Handle With Care that they
decided to release it under the Wilburys moniker, and to continue the collaboration with an album s worth of songs. Their
camaraderie is heard in every groove on Rhino s remastered reissue of their now-historic, GRAMMY®-winning debut VOLUME 1.
They followed it up in 1990 with a second full-length, VOLUME 3 the disc was minus Orbison, who passed away in 88, but still
full of the spirit that made their musical brotherhood the stuff of legend. After being out of print for more than a decade, Rhino
reintroduced the classic discs boasting previously unreleased bonus tracks in 2007 as part of a special 2CD/DVD set The
Traveling Wilburys Collection. The expanded VOLUME 1 and VOLUME 3 are now available as individual titles

I love the traveling, Wilburys how can you not love a band featuring Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, and Jeff Lynne. I’m on the CD for years. The vinyl is exceptional and out does the sound of the CD significantly. I am a huge Tom Petty fan, and my vinyl collection was not complete without the addition of this album. It’s a shame that Roy Orbison passed away before they had a chance to record this album. it’s still relevant and wonderful to listen to this album 40 years after it’s release. If something happened to this album, I would buy it again in a heartbeat, great musicians. I would buy from the seller again.

I have the first Traveling WIlbury and it is amazing. What's not to love about the musicians on these albums. I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. It isn't as good as the first Traveling Wilbury but it is worth owning in my opinion. I am trying to find the 2nd album to add to my collection but I haven't had much success. I do miss Roy Orbison's sound since he passed away, he isn't on the 2nd and 3rd Wilburys. But it is still worth owning.

The Dylan-penned tunes stick in your head for days afterward. You have to put on a CD or the local alternative station when driving, or you 'll find yourself replaying "If you belonged to me" in your mind. Uh-oh, it's happening again.
It is a shame Orbison passed away before they recorded this, his soaring voice really was one of many highlights of the Vol 1 record.
I've always thought the other shame with both records is couldn't they have gotten Mark Knopfler in stead of Tom Petty? TP is so out-classed by the others {full disclosure: I've never "gotten" TP; maybe that's my failing}.
Any way, with the number of brothers down to 4, TP gets more time than he got on Vol 1, and IMHO that's too bad. His stuff is generally lackluster; when hard up against Harrison or Dylan or even Lynne, the paucity of his output really comes through. His greatest gift seems to be his ability to get into the inner circle of much better talents, and bask in the reflected glow.
I think about Knopfler being there instead, and I sigh. Remember Dylan & Mark teamed up on Infidels way back when, and you can still hear the great synergy all these years later. A missed opportunity.

Fallecido Roy Orbison, de nuevo nadie hubiera apostado porque los Wilburys sacasen un nuevo trabajo discográfico. Del anterior, había sobrado algún material que, en vista del éxito de ventas del primer volumen, estaba pensado para un segundo volumen que debería haberse publicado en 1989. La muerte de su amigo por un infarto trastocó los planes y lo que debería ser el volumen dos se convirtió un año después en el volumen tres.

Subtitularlo como volumen tres fue una broma de Harrison, como broma había sido el nombre del grupo en su origen, y lo hizo no se sabe si para confundir a la prensa especializada o para confundir a esos coleccionistas que más que disfrutar de lo que tienen, coleccionan para acumular, clasificar y numerar. Y puede que a su vez, para homenajear con ese vacío, el vacío que dejó Orbison en el grupo. También fue broma de Harrison cambiar sus "nombres wilburys" por otros nuevos "nombres wilburys".

Del material sobrante, Jeff Lynne se encargó de vertebrar en varios temas:
los cuatro primeros, que también son los mejores y que podrían completar el volumen uno por su excelencia. Tom Petty, que había acompañado a Harrison en sus conciertos, aportó más en esta ocasión, y Harrison que había ideado este nuevo trabajo de los Wilburys y Dylan contribuyeron menos como compositores y más como arreglistas, El trabajo en sí fue un homenaje a su amigo fallecido Orbison, pero su impronta de ese rock de los 50 sólo aparece en 'Wilbury Twist', un divertido y jocoso tema con sonido de los 90. Además 'Poor House' y los 'bonus tracks' de Harrison completan este muy buen disco.

Las canciones, no tan frescas y distendidas en su concepción, no tuvieron el éxito de ventas de los del primer volumen, pero su sonido fue fiel al álbum de 1988 y su calidad no decepciona. Como dije, los cuatro primeros temas y 'Poor House' son de extraordinaria calidad y merecieron una más y mejor promoción.

P.D.: Cuando a finales de los 90 Harrison se hizo con los derechos de producción y distribución de los "Wilburys", éste se dedicó a continuar con los arreglos del segundo trabajo del grupo e incluyó a su hijo para aportar coros y solos de guitarra en los temas de su autoría, que no aparecen en la primera edición, desaparecida del mercado. Esta presente edición contiene esos últimos arreglos de Harrison.
