Tony S Shocking. I'm a Dirt Late Model Driver, there is so much wrong with this movie, while I was reading the credits, in my mind I was expecting and waiting for an apology from John Travolta! The story was ok, but the was the cars and the racing was portrayed was terrible! For a start you don't change gears in a Late Model! I really feel I'm owed an apology from John Travolta, this is in my top five worst films of all time, it's probably number 3 or 4! It's an embarrassment to film making! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/06/23 Full Review John B I thought it was good overall as it was a racing movie with Travolta & Shania Twain as the main celebrities plus the story was interesting. It just felt sluggish in places and not as exciting as it could have been Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/28/22 Full Review Audience Member typical plot. mediocre writing and acting. only a few glimpses of Travolta's real talent . don't waste your time. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/21/22 Full Review Audience Member much better than I expected. Great acting. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/19/20 Full Review Audience Member Not perfect by any means. Not at all. And the acting from a few like Twain and Sebastian is questionable at times, as well as the sound editing in specific parts. But at the core of it, these are all only nit-picks that while distracting, does not take away from the whole movie. At the core of this movie, Travolta I think delivers a strong performance that complements a solid story. And the story is predictable at times, but it's a solid story with a solid script, solid cinematography, and a solid cast. This all contributed to make a solid movie. Not perfect, not horrific, but solid. And sometimes that's all we need in a movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member John Travolta stars in the racecar drama Trading Paint. When his son quits his stock car racing team to drive for someone else Sam Munroe comes out of retirement and puts everything on the line in order to win. Co-starring Michael Madsen, Kevin Dunn, and Shania Twain, the cast is pretty decent, but the performances are rather middling. Also, the directing is really poor; particularly the racing scenes, which are dull and lifeless (and made more so by the inept announcers). Still, the father/son drama is well-done, if not a bit rote, through Travolta makes it work. Disappointing and uninspired, Trading Paint is completely forgettable. Glenn Kenny RogerEbert.com [A] decidedly undistinguished dirt-racing film. Rated: 1.5/4 Mar 22, 2019 Full Review Johnny Oleksinski New York Post Sure, there's potential for pleasure in an old story done right, but Travolta croaking out a Southern accent as he overplays his outbursts and emotional reconciliations doesn't qualify. Rated: 1.5/4 Mar 22, 2019 Full Review Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter There's plenty of material here for a reasonably engrossing drama. Somehow, screenwriters Craig R. Welch and Greg Gerani fail to come up with anything remotely interesting. Mar 21, 2019 Full Review Brian Costello Common Sense Media This is an okay, if mostly flat, sports action movie centered on dirt track stock car racing. Rated: 2/5 Aug 2, 2022 Full Review Asher Luberto Film Threat Where are the risks? Where's the family drama? Where's the intrigue? It seems Travolta still remains stuck at the cinematic red light. Rated: 4/10 Aug 9, 2019 Full Review Matthew Roe Film Threat Ultimately, Trading Paint doesn't amount to much more than an easy way to mindlessly kill eighty-nine minutes.
