Groundbreaking ceremony enjoyed for Tom Roy - UPI Park

WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The newest upgrade for Grace College's athletic facilities enjoyed a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday.

Grace celebrated the upcoming Tom Roy - UPI Park during a ceremony at the Lancers' baseball field. The renovations will take place this summer, including a new backstop, netting system and team dugouts. Groundwork will also be laid for future phases of the project.

The stadium will be named after Tom Roy, a former head coach for the Lancers and founder of Unlimited Potential, Inc. UPI is an international, 42-year-old organization that ministers to professional baseball players.

During Thursday's ceremony, Grace set aside time for prayer and dedication of the facility. Several speakers offered praise for Roy's legacy of ministry and discipleship through the sport of baseball.

Roy also threw out a ceremonial pitch to current Lancer pitcher Evan Etchison to highlight the groundbreaking festivities.

The event was well attended by Grace staff, faculty, trustees, students and community members.

The baseball building project has multiple phases with funding currently past the first phase. To help Grace reach all of its fundraising goals, visit www.gclancers.com/baseballproject.
