Rangers plan Tom Lawrence surgery strategically to ensure pre-season return – Injury expert

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Rangers...

Rangers forward Tom Lawrence looks to be on course to return for pre-season training in June or July given the timing of his surgery, claims Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert does not see him back in action before the end of the season as he underwent an operation on his knee in early March.

Lawrence took to Instagram to confirm the surgery two weeks ago and said that it was the only option available in order to play next season.

Explaining exclusively to Ibrox News, the reason and timing of the injury, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said, “Based on the timing of the surgery, this sounds much more like a procedure done to prepare for next season.

“The player has said something similar as well in terms of being ready for next season and in the build-up to the games [June and July].”

The Wales international looked to have hit the ground running at Ibro as he managed to score two goals and provide an assist in four league starts.

However, after playing the full 90 minutes in the 4-0 win against Ross County on 27 August 2022.

Rangers secured the 29-year-old’s services for free last summer as his deal at Derby County ran out and he did not pen an extension at the Championship club which got relegated to League One.
