Rangers ace finally breaks silence on new injury setback

Tom Lawrence opens up on Rangers injury nightmare after latest setback

Rangers star Tom Lawrence has broken his silence on his injury nightmare during his first season at Ibrox after undergoing surgery.

The Wales international signed for the club on a free transfer in the summer and started well before going down with a knee injury at the back end of August.

Gers boss Michael Beale confirmed Lawrence underwent another operation and will be out of action for the rest of the campaign [The Herald, 2 March].

And the ex-Derby ace took to his Instagram [9 March] to confirm his surgery went well and opened up on his fitness issues this term.

He wrote: “Appreciate all the messages over the past week off everyone, not how I wanted my first season to go at Rangers with injuries and after trying everything over the past five months, in and out of the gym the only solution was to have surgery and get ready to play again next season.

“Surgery went well and I’m looking forward to getting back on the pitch in the near future.”

Well stocked

The 29-year-old midfielder was swiftly becoming a key player under former manager Giovanni Van Bronckhorst before his injury in August going on to register 3 goals and an assist in all competitions.

Beale has come in since then and found the right formula for his attack with the likes of Ryan Kent and Fashion Sakala becoming household names under his stewardship.

Also, the likes of Malik Tillman and Todd Cantwell have emerged on the scene at Ibrox which has meant the Gers haven’t missed Lawrence as much as they expected as soon as he suffered his injury blow.

The club are well stocked in Lawrence’s position right now, which means the former Derby man could well face a fight to secure a starting spot when he returns to action.

Beale will be hoping the 29-year-old returns in tip-top fettle as he plans a major assault on the Scottish Premiership title next season. Lawrence still has a huge part to play.

In other Rangers news, the club have pulled off a major transfer coup with a deal already signed for a player who was interesting two English giants.
