Three Tri-City actors are cast in Theatre in the Country's next play set in 18th century Vienna.

The company based in Langley will mount Amadeus, a fictional show about the lives of the classical music composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his alleged rival, Antonio Salieri.

Premiered in 1979, the work by Peter Shaffer later won a Tony Award for best play and, in 1984, became a film starring Tom Hulce as Mozart and F. Murray Abraham as Salieri.

For the Theatre in the Country production, Port Coquitlam actor Vanessa Lazare takes on the role of Constanze, Mozart’s wife, while Coquitlam residents Dovershin MacRae is Emperor Joseph II and Gary Wolfowicz portrays Venticello 2.

“It takes an amazing group of talented people to bring a show like this together. The sets and costumes must reflect the grandness of the ear and the performances are almost operatic in drama and humour to embody these characters that are so driven in their passion for music,” said Theatre in the Country’s artistic director Reg Parks, who is playing Salieri.

Amadeus runs from April 10 to 27 at Theatre in the Country in Langley (5708 Glover Rd.). Tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 604-259-9737 or visiting the company’s website.
