Mike Faist and Lucas Hedges to star in ‘Brokeback Mountain’

The Emmy-winning actor and Golden Globe-nominated performer will play cowboys Jack Twist and Ennis del Mar in the world premiere production at @sohoplace.

UPDATE: Emily Fairn will play Alma, alongside Paul Hickey as Older Ennis, and Martin Marquez as Joe/Bill/Jack's Father.

Mike Faist and Lucas Hedges will star in the world premiere of Brokeback Mountain. Brokeback Mountain begins previews at @sohoplace from 10 May, with an opening night on 18 May, and performances to 12 August.

The Brokeback Mountain play is based on Annie Proulx’s 1997 short story, and the 2005 movie of the same name, starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal. Set in 1960s Wyoming, the play follows the complex romantic relationship between two cowboys, Ennis del Mar and Jack Twist, on an isolated mountain.

Brokeback Mountain is the first world premiere at @sohoplace, following Marvellous, As You Like It, and Medea.

Mike Faist will play Jack. The Emmy-winning actor is best known for originating Connor Murphy in Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway, and Riff in the 2021 West Side Story film alongside Ariana DeBose.

Lucas Hedges will make his West End debut as Ennis. The Academy Award-nominated actor starred in Kenneth Lonergan’s 2016 film, Manchester by the Sea.

Ashley Robinson adapts Brokeback Mountain, with original songs by Dan Gillespie Sells.

"Dan Gillespie Sells’ powerful and beautiful songs, sung by “The Balladeer,” give voice to the tumultuous inner landscape of our wannabe cowboys (both young men of few words), and provide the scope of our vast and brutal outer landscape, not to mention allowing Proulx’s poetic prose to literally sing," said Ashley Robinson. Eddi Reader will play the Balladeer.

Jonathan Butterell directs, with set and costume design by Tom Pye, lighting design by David Finn, and sound design by Christopher Shutt.
