Did you know that Tom Glavine is the only pitcher in Major League history to appear on the mound in 600 or more games (and Glavine had 682, nearly 700), and EVERY ONE OF THEM AS A STARTER (games pitched are exactly equal with games started)? Did you know that no other pitcher has ever even reached the 500 games played = games started plateau? The next closest pitcher in history is C.C. Sabathia.

In 2009, the Hockey Hall of Fame inducted Brett Hull and Luc Robitaille. Tom Glavine was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, 4th round, 69th overall, 2 rounds ahead of Hull and 5 rounds ahead of Robitaille! An entire book could easily be written about Glavine and here are some years of note:

1991: Tom Glavine won 20 games (lost 11) and posted a 2.55 earned run average. It was his first of three consecutive seasons with twenty or more wins and he won his first (of two) Cy Young Award.

1993: Tom Glavine finished the season with a 22 and 6 record, he is currently the last Major League pitcher to have won twenty games in three consecutive years.

1993: Tom Glavine was elected to the Billerica High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Glavine had attended Billerica Memorial High School where he was a letterman in ice hockey as well as baseball. He was a four-year member of the honor roll and the National Honor Society. In hockey, as a senior, he was named the Merrimack Valley's Most Valuable Player. In baseball, he led his team to the Division I North Title and the Eastern Massachusetts Championship as a senior.

1995: Tom Glavine won the World Series Most Valuable Player Award after defeating the Cleveland Indians during Game 6 (and Game 2) of the 1995 World Series.

1999: Tom Glavine, on October 3, 1999, won his one-hundred sixty-fourth game during the 1990's - the second highest amount of wins in the National League during that decade, behind teammate Greg Maddux, who had 166.

2010: Tom Glavine wore #47 his entire Major League career and on August 6, 2010, the Atlanta Braves retired it forever (the eighth in franchise history).

2014: Tom Glavine was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame on January 8th, his first ballot, receiving 91.9% of the possible votes (525 of the 571 writers selected him).

Tom Glavine joined the 300 Wins Club on August 5, 2007, against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball. Glavine pitched 6.1 innings, won 8 to 3, and brought his career pitching record to 300197. Tom was the twenty-third pitcher to win 300 games, and only the fifth left-handed pitcher ever (at that time) to do so - joining Steve Carlton, Lefty Grove, Eddie Plank and Warren Spahn.
