TV Programs
Since pioneering the first TV program production in 1958 in the movie industry, we have applied the planning and production expertise we developed in theatrical films to create a wide variety of television programs. Our primary focus has been on dramas, including detective dramas, mysteries, period dramas, special-effects (TOKUSATSU) superhero series, and feature-length programs.

Our television programs are produced by Toei Tokyo Studios, Toei TV Production Co., Ltd. and Toei Animation Co., Ltd. in the Tokyo area, and by Toei Kyoto Studios in the Kyoto area.
These programs represent a large percentage of the television drama shows commissioned by Tokyo’s major broadcasting stations, and they consistently achieve high viewership ratings.

Toei Tokyo Studios & Zukun Laboratory

Toei Tokyo Studios

The Studios district is one of Japan’s largest film production hubs, annually producing 40 films, 150 TV programs, and around 100 commercials. It combines various filmmaking capabilities, ranging from stage rental to production, while also offering unique casting services and actor management. It’s no exaggeration to say that one can hardly go a single day without seeing images created here. Toei Tokyo Studios is one of the few studios worldwide that can use both the latest digital technologies and analog techniques simultaneously, attracting keen interest from international audiences. “Anything is possible at Toei Studios in Oizumi”—The collaboration between Toei Tokyo Studios and the surrounding facilities will lead to continuous growth.

Post-Production Business

Our post-production operations, centralized in one location, involve over 100 film projects annually, with an increasing number of television series. Pursuing new frontiers in cinema sound, Toei has adopted the next-generation Dolby Atmos sound system, the first of its kind in Japan. By expanding our video and sound studios, we are strengthening our production line and fully entering sound production for animation and dubbed works.

Virtual Production Department

Launched on October 1, 2022, our Virtual Production Department focuses on virtual production, a cutting-edge technology for film production. The LED studio, equipped with a 5-meter-high, 30-meter-long LED wall (the largest in Japan as of April 2024), is expected to solve physical challenges in film and video production, such as weather and transportation, expanding creative possibilities while also reducing labor hours and cost.
The addition of the Virtual Production Department to our comprehensive film and video production hub, which already includes production, art, and post-production, allows us to offer more streamlined, one-stop services as we continue to move forward as a leading center for film and video content delivery.

Zukun Laboratory

Zukun Laboratory, named after the German word zukunft, which means future, is where we pioneer the latest visual trends. At Zukun Laboratory, we are constantly involved in researching and developing state-of-the-art technology. We have recently developed a facial capture system that analyzes data from human facial expressions and translates it onto 3D computer-generated characters, creating digital humans.

Toei Kyoto Studios & TOEI Kyoto Studio Park

Toei Kyoto Studios

Toei Kyoto Studios began in 1926 as the Uzumasa Studio of Bando Tsumasaburo Production. It is the most historically significant facility within Toei.
Given its history, Kyoto Studios is strongly associated with period dramas, and it continues to draw other companies seeking its expertise in this genre.
However, its reputation for high production capability is not limited to period dramas; it is also well-regarded for its numerous hit productions, including gangster series, documentary dramas, women’s literature, and television dramas set in Kyoto.

Kyoto Studios boasts eleven stages, including Toei’s largest stage, and handles all sections of film and video production, from production, direction, cinematography, lighting, art, sound recording, costumes, makeup and hair dressing to post-production operations, such as editing and dubbing. Because of its location in Kyoto, Kyoto Studios also serves as a base for international films shooting in Japan, and with its role as the backbone of TOEI Kyoto Studio Park, a major tourist attraction, it goes beyond the scope of a private enterprise and contributes to Japanese culture.

TOEI Kyoto Studio Park

TOEI Kyoto Studio Park, established in 1975, was the pioneer of Japan’s theme parks, offering visitors the unique experience of observing part of real film production site at Toei Kyoto Studios. The place became an instant hit, providing a special experience for people to engage with the actors and crew of period dramas, immersing themselves in the world of a film studio. Over time, the facility has not only supported the succession and development of period drama culture through the support of numerous visitors but has also expanded its fan base by hosting various character events and introducing new attractions, thereby establishing itself as a staple of Kyoto tourism.
For the 50th anniversary of the opening of TOEI Kyoto Studio Park, we will undertake a large-scale renewal. We will continue to evolve to deliver even greater dreams and excitement to a growing audience, both in Japan and overseas.
