Tobey Maguire helped usher in the superhero movie craze by playing Spider-Man in the early 2000s original trilogy. In 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, he got to reprise that role in the MCU.

Speaking to Marvel ahead of Titan Books’ release of the Spider-Man No Way Home: The Official Movie Special Book, Maguire reflected on getting to wear the suit once again, and how he was “immediately” open and ready to playing the character again.

“When they called initially, I was like ‘finally!’ [Laughs] I got the call and was immediately open about coming to do this,” said Maguire. “Not without nerves — you know, ‘What will this look like and what will the experience be?’ But to get to show up with beautiful, talented, creative people and play together? It’s just like, ‘Yes!’ It’s fun and exciting.”

Maguire also went on to say that he’s a fan of films and series of the MCU, and that if they ever were to call him again in the future, he wouldn’t hesitate to return.

“I love these films and I love all of the different series. If these guys called me and said, ‘Would you show up tonight to hang out and goof around?’ or ‘Would you show up to do this movie or read a scene or do a Spider-Man thing?’, it would be a ‘yes!’ Because why wouldn’t I want to do that?”

No Way Home ended its run in the theater with a worldwide gross of over $1.9 billion at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2021, the sixth-highest-grossing film of all time, and the highest-grossing Spider-Man film to date.
